Who Created The TYRANIDS?! | Warhammer 40k Lore Abridged

There is possibly No greater threat to our galaxy than that posed by the xenos species known as the Tyranids. But where did the Tyranids come from? Who created them? Is there any hope for us? I've been reading alot about the bugs and figured no would be a good time to go over some of the more wild theories on why the Tyranids came to our galaxy.

So just forewarning GW completely debunked the second theory, that promotional thing wasn’t towards Tyraninds. It was for a new scarab model and a codex for them when they released the silent king model. Got scrapped for unknown reasons.

What is Canon though is the silent King is hell-bent on eradicating the tyranids. Even allying with the imperium a couple times to defeat them. Which made the imperium go holy shit the souless killer robots are actually cognizant?!

There's actually dozens of dwarf Galaxies orbiting The Milky Way and they are relatively close(by Cosmic standards)

I like Bricky's theory. If you look at the map of where all the hive fleets come from, it's all over the place, so he thinks that we're completely surrounded by them. Also they started coming after the most badass iron warrior Barabus Dantioch died destroying a giant relay tower. It sent off a signal ping and the Tyranids detected it.

Fun fact about the Tyrannids: I don't know if this story is still canon or not since I've read this short story a long time ago but basically some Tyrannids are picky when it comes to invading planets. Like the video stated, the Tyrannids don't like to go up against the Necrons for they could not turn them into biomass but also they are susceptible to being a prey rather than being the hunter case in point when a small group of Tyrannids tried to invade Catachan. To make the story short, the Tyrannids didn't survive their landfall in Catachan as they were devoured by Catachan's flora and fauna. It then makes you wonder, if the Tyrannids can become a prey, it is certainly a possibility that what they are doing now isn't just going planet to planet consuming everything but rather trying to survive for what is something bigger and horrible than themselves.

Another theory I love is that some insanely advanced race noticed that during the war in heaven, the warp in this the milky way part of the universe was being corrupted (creation of the Chaos gods) and created the Tyranids as a sort of security system to both isolate the milky way, and go and wipe out everything so the warp will settle and the corruption (Chaos gods) will go away. This is from the fact that they came from outside the galaxy, have to ability to cut off the warp from the materium, and have a gestalt mind that controls them all. This theory hinges that the "hivemind" is essentially a massive bio computer that controls the entirety of the tyranids for the purpose of this isolation/clean up project of the milky way.

I like how if we all agree on a single theory for Tyranids, we're basically writing the storyboard for GW.

Personally, I’ve always held the idea that the Tyranids are the Prime Life-form of Andromeda, the closest neighboring Galaxy. They are everything in their own galaxy for billions of years before reaching out to the next closest one, us. In the past, Eldar would have been the Milky Way’s “Prime Life-form” but now it’s arguable Orks unless we find that the Chaos Gods and Warp are Local to the Milky Way and not present in other places, then it would be Chaos.

If there is something chasing the Tyrranids, it will just be more Tyrranids:
When insects swarm, the largest threat to each individual is the hungry mouth right behind them....

I remember when I watched a Tyranids video from Luetin at late night, he used some audios of people running in panic, shots, explosions and of course the roaring of monsters gave me nightmares. 🤣

Well with the whole tyranids running away thing there is a theory, that some of the men of iron got out of the galaxy and started setting up shop and producing on mass, then some bio engineering xeno decided to make an army that could match the men of iron in replication and power and thus were sent to harvest other galaxies to deal with that problem

Didn't the Silent King claim that the Necrons' main threat are the Tyranids since the Necrons needs biomass to convert themselves back to fleshy beings?

my theory is that after the old ones left the galaxy and either evolved into or created the tyranids to clear out the galaxy so they could come back.

BONUS: it is also possible that the old ones always looked like the tyranids and just evolved into a hive mind this works as we dont have much concrete info on the old ones. I also think that that some of the old ones stayed behind in the galaxy and went into hiding and avoided technology to stay hidden from the necrons and became the kroot, as the kroot and the tyranids both have the long xeno-morph heads and strong, outward jaws, and the big banger, both change and adapt to their surroundings, the tyranids do it in waves but the kroot adapt by eating things and slowly begin to adopt the characteristics of whatever (or whoever) they ate.

If the nids are the scouts it could be safe to say that they are the first wave that consumes the biomass of a galaxy the next wave would probably be something that consumes inorganic material or living energy.

Despite what some believe, the tide is not endless. On a galactic scale it is gigantic but the main fleet need to eat too. And after each victory against the devorer, the beast will have to feed on itself to survive and keep fighting. If the swarm could be stopped for a while, it is going to starve as the Battle for Baal but on a bigger scale.

I actually like the old ones version more, but not as a fail safe, but as a memory bank. Since the war in heaven was going so poorly I think the old ones created them as a memory bank for all races, because the Nids do absorb and use the DNA they get from other races to integrate into themselves. So I like the idea that the Old ones one created them to devour life in the galaxy between the old ones hiding spot, and the Necros, and Katan since if there was no life to devour on the way to them the katan would stave giving them time to prepare, as well as them being a memory bank for the races that where destroyed dna. Since Old ones see all life as sacred they could have done this with the intention that once the war was over they could take that dna from the Nids, to recreate those destroyed races.

The "bigger threat" theory reminds me of the scourge from stellaris.

The theory of the Space Bugs being hunted by something is horrifying yet unrealistic at a point. Or rather, to say this more accurately, something knew about Hive Mind, and they are hunting down the Hive Mind from this galaxy to another, and this big bug can't do anything but keep devouring to keep up the number fight against the being is chasing her.

However, the theory of Tyranids just a bunch of hungry boys who keep devouring galaxies to others is a more logical point. Considered they drop in the Milky Way galaxy from various points and directions and do nothing but eat, and no way of interaction proves it all.

I thought the Tyranids came to the Milky Way because they saw the Astronomicon shining like a beacon In the infinite darkness and it was like the dinner bell for the Tyranids.

My favorite theorie about Tyranids is that they are childrens of a C'tan Tsara'noga the Outsider who left the galaxy in shame and in tears for eating his own in closing days of War in Heaven. And when Pharos Beacon blow up during Horus Heresy, Tsara recognize it as last remanents of the Old Ones, and send his adorable pets to finaly finish their long overdue extinction, only for Silent King in his self empose exile pass them by and ben like "Holy mother fucking of shit" and run back to safe Necrons best hope for returning them into flesh

My favourite theory is that as we don't know where they came from, so there is a good chance that they are not actually coming in this galaxy to conquer/eat all living things, they are actually resupplying for their next great wave and fleeing from something horrible in the deep dark universe that made them flee to other worlds/galaxies.
