The Mona Lisa is a nameless woman? Her name is Lisa Gherardini and she was born June 15th, 1479. In Florence. Her father's name was Antonmaria. She was married to a silk merchant named Francesco del Giocondo.

The Mona Lisa was at one point a lot bigger. The portrait showed her full figure but due some bad case of ' sad life happens ', the painting was cut up and the other half was rumored to be used as table cloth in someone's home.

Am I the only one who couldn't see the initials LV and the number 72?

Actually, Da Vinci loved the Mona Lisa so much he carried it around with him wherever he went.

I agree with you about the mona Lisa. When I went to see the painting there were so many people trying to see it that it was almost impossible to get a good look at it. After lots of bumps and pushes, I managed to get to the first line and even then I had a hard time to see it because of all the protecting layers of glass. Also I expected a bigger painting but in reality is small.

I went to the Louvre on a weekday evening in October 1989 when in Paris on a business trip. There were maybe three other people in the room looking at the Mona Lisa. I too was struck by how unimpressive the painting is by today's standards. It's important to remember that the Mona Lisa was painted c1505 after Da Vinci had spent decades studying perspective and shadow. What makes that painting epic is the level of detail captured in the models face when painted five hundred years ago.

There is a reason why the mona lisa is in glass.
A long time before the mona lisa was famous.
Someone walked in the museum took the mona lisa, caught a bus outside.
Then he put mona lisa in a closet for years.
He was caught.
That is why she is under glass.

maybe the Mona Lisa was painted over because the first painting she looks as if she is thinner, the second one she has a more full-figured and rounder face. also women were considered to be more beautiful if they were not so skinny in the Renaissance times. the Veil and shroud is also not in not first painting if you see, this leads me to believe that she was not pregnant in the first painting end had become pregnant or given birth by the time it was done. but, I suppose we will never know

Totally agree with your end point. The wife and I were in Paris a few years back and went to the Louvre, a gorgeous and incredible landmark of Parisian culture that has to be visited once in a lifetime. In awe of the fact we were about to see possibly the most famous painting in the world, we approached it in reverence and stood staring at it for a few moments, ''So... that's it?'' the wife remarked. ''Yea'', I replied. ''Smaller than I thought it would be'', the wife remarked. ''Yea'', I replied. ''Lunch?'', I remarked. ''Yea'', the wife replied. Not the mind blowing experience I was expecting for sure....

This is my first viewing of this channel. I subscribed instantly. There are channels who's videos are of slightly better quality visually. But the man who makes these videos clearly has a passion for what he does and it carries over into the overall feel of feel of them. Excellent job.
