How To Automatically Hide or Show Scroll Bars On Windows 11 [Tutorial]

As part of the Microsoft's new Fluent Design System, Windows 11 now includes conscious controls, which are elements that adapt and respond to the environment and the action you're trying to do. One of these new controls are conscious scrollbars that only appear when you move the mouse toward the edge of a window, and then, they'll remain hidden to remove unnecessary distractions from the screen when they're not needed.

Turning this setting off will result in the scroll bars in UWP (XAML) apps persisting as scrollbars in their full expanded size, even when not interacting with them.

Issues addressed in this tutorial:

scrollbar settings windows 11

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 11 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, and Samsung.

I have a Horizontal scroll bar that is showing up on my Navigation Pane of Windows file explorer, even though I have the "always show toolbars" turned off. It's super frustrating! Any ideas?

Thank you for this! My scrollbar keeps disappearing in Windows Terminal and it is annoying. I was looking for this for a while based on instructions for Windows 10, but they've changed.
