In this excel tutorial for beginners, you’ll learn a tremendous trick to hide/unhide rows and columns in excel. If you follow the instructions, you’ll be able to show or hide rows using Plus + and Minus – sign. You can to the same thing for the columns also. Not only that, you’ll be able to do this using Excel’s built-in feature.
In this tutorial I’ll use the group feature in excel to hide/unhide rows and columns. To do it select several adjacent rows. Click on Group under the data tab and done. Your selected rows are now grouped and you’ll be able to hide them by clicking on the minus sign and you can unhide them by clicking Plus sign. Same goes for the columns.
There is another feature called auto outline under the group menu. If you click on that, your worksheet will be grouped based on the data set you have on the worksheet.
If you need to ungroup, select all the grouped column or rows and click on the ungroup button under the data tab. Done.
You can also remove all the grouping at once by clicking on the ungroup dropdown and then click on clear outline. This will remove all the groups from your worksheet.
