I grew up in a peaceful village in Sichuan China, surrounded by rolling mountains and vast fields. Every morning, the sunlight filters through the mist, signaling the start of another day. The villagers are busy with farming and tending to livestock, adjusting to the rhythms of the changing seasons. Our family has a small vegetable garden, where we grow food for ourselves. In the evenings, as the sky darkens, families gather in their courtyards, sharing stories and enjoying the tranquility and warmth that rural life offers.

Cooking is a vital part of life here. Every meal reflects traditions passed down through generations, and many dishes are treasured family recipes. For us in Sichuan, the flavors are often bold, spicy, and aromatic. Today, my mom was in the kitchen preparing one of our local specialties—冷吃兔 (Cold Spicy Rabbit), a famous dish from Zigong, Sichuan. The rabbit meat is marinated with dried chilies, Sichuan peppercorns, garlic, and other seasonings. After being boiled, it’s served cold, with a unique combination of spicy and numbing flavors that dance on the tongue.

I filmed her making this dish, not just to capture the cooking process, but to preserve the moment. Life in the village may be simple, but it’s filled with precious traditions and memories. And as time goes by, these moments will only become more valuable.

What kind of berries were those at the beginning? Look a little like blueberries. When my son and I went fishing in Alaska he would eat the wild blueberries everyday, so many wild blueberry bushes in Alaska
