This is why the the Smart muntiions launched by HIMARS and M270 is critical to taking out ammo dumps.
No ammo means these launchers are useless.

Thermobarics have been around a long time. The US has plenty of them. It's like being shocked that an army uses grenades. I fail to see what is so surprising.

In war you have to find a way to walk a fine line between war crimes and making sure your enemy is absolutely terrified of the idea of you.

It doesn't rip the oxygen out of soldiers lungs if they aim it at daycares and hospitals

He’s got a point there you guys should do a show about how Vladimir Putin was supposed to appear in the last three James Bond movies as a bond villain, however, due to threats on the producers and directors families that version was never released

Fuel-Air-Explosives were heavily used by the Soviets, then US in Afghanistan .
They are great for clearing caves

Shades of 'The Neutron Bomb'. This is what our best minds have come up with.

A little research revealed Germany tried to develop these sorts of weapons during WWII. The USA was the first to develop the modern version thermobaric weapons which saw usage in Vietnam and later during Desert Storm. This whole topic would make for a worthy follow-up "infographics show" video discussing the development, employment and UN CCW regulations involving these powerful battlefield weapons....

A disadvantage of thermobaric/fuel air explosive is atmospheric condition. If the target is in a area that is windy, foggy or raining the fuel might not disburse correctly and the power of the combustion is reduced when the fuel is ignited. If the condition is bad enough the disbursed fuel might not even ignite.

Correction: As a thermobaric explosion consumes the air from the explosion area, the initial shockwave is countered immediately by the surrounding air pressure equalizing and rushing to fill the created inbalance. This creates a dual shockwave but the area is immediately restored back with oxygen. The way the weapon is explained in the video, makes it seem like it is leaving an area without oxygen, which is not what happens at all. It works like any other explosion or combustion only in a very wide area. People close enough may experience collapsed lung or even torn lung, but they are not suffocating because there is no oxygen, the lung damage is what is causing the lack of oxygen in the victims. The oxygen balance is immediately restored to the explosion area after the combustion.

Correction 2: This is not a new weapon as the headline claims and was heavily used by the US in vietnam to clear large areas of the jungle.

There's been a lot of video of drone dropped thermobaric grenades that are literally devastating entire squads if they drop it in the trench or their dug out. And they do it with deadly accuracy too. Both sides are using it but only one side is using it to keep invaders off its soil. Slava Ukranini 🇺🇦

This reminds me of the story in World War Z, where the guy is describing the Battle of Yonkers

I had never heard of these until today but those are horrifying, I hope that once the war ends more restrictions will be placed on that kind of weapon.
