Cobra must be done only when you are guaranteed that hostile wont have enough time to react against you in a such manner, i.e blast the shit out of you because you are massive spinning object while hostile still has gun sight on you.

If he did it little bit later, he wouldn’t survive either caz that altitude for cobra is just deadly, he wouldn’t have any time to recover.

As ı remember in the movie they were run out of gun ammo, and in the game your distance to enemy is far. I think that matters too
