you should tint your house windows, yes... but never use automotive film to do so

For all you people that tint your home windows, I feel the need to tell you that tint is a quick fix on an insulated glass unit but the tint for some reason always blows the seals on the unit faster than non tinted windows. In other words you’ll be having fun replacing those foggy units in the future. The right way would be to get glass replacement with a high end low-e coating on the inside of the glass. My personal favorite is what’s called solarcool grey.
Pricy but you won’t be replacing your glass units for another 30-50 years.

Just did all of mine. On west side windows the thermometer is reading about 12° cooler than before. Also looks bad ass having all reflective windows so nobody can see in during the day

Dude I did my patio doors and it makes a huge difference here in vegas. Only regret doing the (2) 48”x75” doors solo. Should have realized sooner my arms won’t simultaneously go 4ft wide and 7ft high. Good thing home tint uses a different adhesive method…😅

My mother in law has a sunroom the gets crazy hot. I think that’s the solution for her. We did this on commercial buildings before Low E glass

I tinted some sky windows at my parents old place about 20 years ago. No joke. Even with window tint it still caused the room to heat up like a microwave in the summer. I straight up created some reflective window covers to shove in it. Made a big difference. I would take them down at night. If thr sky was clear to watch the stars as I fell asleep. After 20 years of sleeping under stars. I can navigate at night without a compass.

As a glazier i warn against tinting windows improperly, i have had to replace too many peoples windows because they do the tinting and do it incorrectly. The heat thats not coming in has to to somewhere, and it its redirected into a pane of glass it will get too hot and crack. Just low-e + argon thermal panes instead of tinting
