Remember running is best for shin conditioning as it applies compressive force

The stick metod it's only for mental toughness but you're just touching the surface of the shin, hitting the heavy bag sends the impact through the entire bone which does condition the shins a lot more, after hitting the bag you can also run with shoes with not much cushion to send more vibration through the bone.

I'm sure that the stick kills more nerves, and is likely overall better for pain management. But actually kicking the bag is what will make your bones grow stronger. The bending of the bone as you impact the bag will cause deep stress in places that the stick simply could not reach without causing severe surface damage! Lifting heavy is also great for bone density. Compression and tension forces on the bone is what will really make it grow stronger. Impact damage from a stick - not so much.

Exactly bro, i have seen people in my gym just never kicking the bag and they only use sticks for conditioning. But in sparring their kicks aren't as gaood as mine.

here are some tips; hitting a heavy bag is good as it impacts and conditions the entire shin bone, conditioning the shin far more. you should also run to send the conditioning further as I would say. running and hitting a heavy bag 👍🏼

Also remember this only hardens the surface and gets you used to pain, if youre training to break something like baseball bat or whatev, you need to harden the inside, this can be done by sprinting

Haven't there been studies showing that weighted squats actually build bone density better than the stick method? I think the study showed that the stick method actually weakens the bone when done too often because it impedes repair and growth, while squats encourage the growth of new bone with significantly damaging it.

That's not to say you shouldn't use the bag too. But kicking the bag after stick rubbing will just weaken it, while kicking the bag after squats won't, and also help to train against fatigue.

Exactly! That's right 100%. Hard hits on the heavy bag will condition anything if done with consistence.

I’ve found using a pvc pipe and banging it on your shin actually works pretty well. Also good if you don’t have a heavy bag at home/readily available

I used to use a stick for my shins and it didn’t make them stronger, but it killed the surface nerves and now it’s less painful. If u train with a heavy bag after they’re numb, u don’t need the stick to keep the nerves dull. It is kind of a right of passage in certain gyms though.

A great thing to apply for shin conditioning plyometrics it really puts your bone under the compressive stess It needs to be stronger and it's explosive nature translates to more power in delivering strikes

I used to do that with a steel bar and sometimes bottle. It has been around 2 years of doing this regularly. Got pretty solid shin but yeah bag method is way better perfects ur kicks

Kicking heavy bag constantly and roadwork is the best method for shin conditioning.

kinda like how boxing itself can increase your stamina, you don’t have to run long distance but it is highly recommended of course

Also hit the bottom part of the bag, it’ll condition your shins even more

What is most important is consistency. Your body will adjust to whatever pressure you put it under and it will naturally go toward the minimum optimal for that.

I've literally never heard someone say that's how you "have to" do conditioning before, just that it's the traditional way it's done

Alternative, grab nearest friend or sibiling and practice shin checking.

Is it healthy idk my shins feel mildly crunchy after.

Downside your friend also gains iron shins
