This is why Scripture memory and solid teaching and grounding in the Word of God from the earliest years of life is so very important.

It isn’t just the validity of the music, its about churches paying royalties that ultimately end up supporting falsehoods.

Paul said in Philippians "But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice".
I don't agree with a lot of the lyrics in "christian music", but it could be a starter point for a believer to then look further into it for truth

In my humble point of view, It doesn't matter how theologically correct a song is: if the such group is a heresy maker, I would never give any support to such group. Period. Satan quoted the Scriptures to Jesus, but it doesn't mean the "he" is ok to be followed.

Thank you Pastor MacArthur for this truth. Some songs by Hillsong and Bethel do honor God but I have no intention of following them. The songs however life God up to where he belongs and me as well.

God weighs the motive of His people. He knows who is His child.

So basically what he is saying is that he doesn't mind Christians listening to their music as long as they're not sucked into their charismatic movements and can discern if it's bad theology.
Reminds me of what Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 1:8
"But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice."

Their songs are powerful. The devil is a liar

Good praise songs are written by God himself. That is why they can bring God's presence to praise music. That's why I love Hillsong.

So ultimately even if they have songs that are theologically sound, it’s best to not buy it and support them with our dollars because Pastor MacArthur said that it’s their music that sustains both blasphemous ministries. Cut off the financial stream and both will find an eventual demise.

What ever happened to just singing the hymns out of the hymnals?

I think that, like most things, it's about interpretation.
When I hear a Christian song that gets me feeling the spirit, I don't then Google who the artist is to see if they are right with God themselves. I hope that they are, but all that matters to me is my relationship with God. Music is a powerful thing, and can help the spirit move within you.
Similarly, I don't agree with every single thing that my pastor says, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to scrap every single thing that I have learned from him. I've learned a lot from him. I believe the same thing with music. Watch out for Blasphemous lyrics, but enjoying the music that makes the spirit flow Within you

Amen, I have always said in the same manner that we should be accepting of biblical reproof even if it comes from the worlds biggest lost hypocrite 💯🙏 If it's biblical it's biblical, period. In this case I wouldn't support them financially though, JMO.

Bethel elevation Hillsong are to be avoided like the plague

As I read the former comments I humbly believe the main point John MacArthur is making is we need to be discerning. As he mentioned - and I am paraphrasing from memory - there are well meaning Christians that have written songs that have horrible theology and there are unbelievers that have written songs that are theologically accurate.
We as believers NEED to attain God-given discernment.

That's why I try hard not to listen to Hillsong. But I've seen many Christians adapt the lyrics.
But it does give me some concern if some of my favorite singers are connected to them...
