This Video shows how to build a self watering Hinged Low Tunnel. A unique twist on the same ol' same ol' Low Tunnel Hoop House. Easy DIY construction even for the beginner. Hook this up to a timer and it's completely hands off. You can hook this up to your raised bed shown in my other video. I like to put these inside a greenhouse with plastic over the hoops and you can extend growing your garden into the winter. Season extension with something so cheap can get you a winter garden for vegetables, greens and ground crops.

These plastic clamps work awesome!

Here is the 6 mil (4 year) greenhouse plastic i use:

I live in Northern Minnesota so the hoop cover will really add to our short season. May just drill holes on low pieces so watering at ground level. Great explanations! Thank you for sharing!

At your inlet try an old air line disconnect 1/4 to 3/4 adapter. I've used them before. water runs through good.

How did you cut the plastic out of the slide locks

Just wanted to ask... what did you use to cut a portion out of the pvc to make your slide locks

When building this did you put any thought into how long you expect your raised bed planter and system to last? how much water would you estimate it takes to prime your system before it starts to spray water ?

Could u show or explain how u put the plastic on, i tried it and used clamps to hold it on but the ends were the plastic came down was really bulky, wondering how u did it? Also i live in central Tx were it is 32 degrees to 61 degrees during the winter all in one day.Do u open yours up when it warms up during the day? Do u staple your plastic to the frame making it permanently attached or do u attach it with clamps so u can roll it up to let air in and be able to also remove it to add insect row cover or shade cloth at another time during your warmer growing season? Why do u put a hose at the other end ?, not sure I understand why u need 2 hoses.

I like it except you could've bought 3 hose adapters for the price of the 6 fittings you used at the valve

I have a question regarding to hinged lid: I noticed that you had the long piece of wood all the way to the end and then put the shorter pieces in on the short edge - edged by the long piece - is there a reason you did it that way? I was watching another video where he said he put the shorter edges to the edge and fit the longer side within that to avoid 'warping'. Is it relevant which side (L vs W) goes to the edge? (sorry don't know the technique words for this!)

those arent threaded couplings, they are male adapters. Slip by MIP (male iron pipe) threaded adapters, to be exact

How much are all the parts & wood? Great job!

No primer? Good luck avoiding leaks. Also, there is blue glue which dries in minutes instead of hours. The valve could have screwed right onto your male adapter.
I gotta say, as a plumber, you make a great carpenter.
