In this video I'll show you exactly how to set up an easy automatic watering sprinkler system (which can be used as a drip irrigation system) for the garden, with affordable parts you can find at your local Bunnings or hardware store (plus links to everything you need!)

Alternatively, if you want to head in store to Bunnings to pick them up yourself - I've got that full list of irrigation system parts below - keep scrolling.

Our superstar gardening guru Jamie (Find her on instagram at @Garden_Grown) shows us exactly how to set up and install the self timer sprinkler / drip irrigation system for plants, to make sure her garden in Melbourne, Australia gets plenty of water all year round, even when she's away on holidays.

The self timer automatic irrigation can be set for daily or every few days, and you can choose how long to water your garden and plants for.

The other irrigation videos I watched were super technical and didn't cover the very basics - thank you for your straightforward explanation and greetings from Adelaide! Definately earned a subscriber in me 😊

Lovely video, what kind of mulch would you suggest using in garden beds and the container herbs please? I realize that I need to take out weeds almost every 2 days from my garden bed

Thanks for the video I will attempt this to my garden as I'm time poor . Question though i have a foot path that separates the garden, how do I put the plastic pipes to the other side? I'm assuming I just place it across the foot path where it doesn't cause a trip hazard ? Another question how often do you water, is it daily, how long for and again assuming depends on the seasons ? Thanks

I'm using a flexi tube for the main pipe as I find them easier to work with, however the connection points to the dripper lines seem to be very hit and miss. I'm using the same hole puncher, but I'm getting notable spray leaks at every connection point.

This might be an obvious question, but since you have the timer there controlling when the sprinklers get water, do you just leave the hose spigot it on all the time? Maybe just turning it off for the winter when it gets below freezing? Also, since the timer is before your splitter, do you have to wait till the timer is on before you get water for the hand hose? Or do you just kind of close the valve on one side and manually turn the timer on to allow water to get through?

Hi, just wondering will the tap timer be okay when its a rainy day as it's battery operated?

I've got a small balcony about 7m long. There's no balcony tap so I have a 100L tank which has quite low pressure. Would 13mm pipe off the tank and then 4mm tube as drippers be ok ? or would it be better to use solely 4mm tube with 4mm T's for the drippers ?

*Update: I ended up running 13mm poly off the tank for about 6m then used the 4mm flexi tube with drippers to run off the 13mm. It works pretty well. Just using 4mm alone I don't think would've worked as each time you put a joiner in it it reduces / restricts the flow.
