Germany lost the First World War due to a combination of military, economic, and political factors. Militarily, the failure of the Schlieffen Plan and subsequent entrenchment on the Western Front led to a prolonged and attritional conflict that Germany could not sustain. The entry of the United States into the war in 1917 provided the Allies with fresh troops and resources, tipping the balance against Germany. Economically, the British naval blockade severely restricted supplies, leading to shortages and undermining the German war effort. Politically, internal unrest and revolution weakened Germany from within, culminating in the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II and the signing of the armistice in November 1918.
