they are just words. “democrat”, “republican” have various historical meanings. Republicans such as Lincoln also used to be anti-capitalist and famously wrote about the wage system as being just as cruel as slavery. he also exchanged letters with Karl Marx back in the 1860s. Just because “republicans abolished slavery” or “democrats started the kkk” doesnt mean they still have the same ideological position currently. with that logic, republicans would be fighting against capitalism as a means of exploitation. the word republic, used to refer to monarchy, as it was used by plato, in “plato’s republic”. In addition, stalin used plato’s republic to justify totalitarianism according to his bibliography. My point is, the words democrat and republican are just party names, and have no connection to actual ideology such as liberalism, conservatism, classical liberal, neo liberal, neo conservative, etc.

Remember that the parties shifted ideologies to attract more voters. The Republicans grew more conservative and the Democrats more liberal. Keep in mind that the parties are institutions and not ideologies. They can support whatever the hell they’d like
