Apple Intelligence Beta Hands-On | Incredibly USEFUL Features!

Apple released iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 betas for developers yesterday, introducing an early version of Apple Intelligence. Not all of the Apple Intelligence features are implemented yet, but we thought we'd go through what's available and see just what kind of changes AI will bring to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

I wish Apple Intelligence had a little indicator for when it’s doing the processing on-device vs. on Apple’s servers. I’m curious how much it can do with only local resources.

I was skeptical, but as a local news reporter I find the new call recording feature and audio transcription stuff to be a game changer. No longer must I expense a third party software for this. Honestly I’m considering getting a 16pro now.

Now when I call a company about dumb shit I need fixed etc. I can just record the phone call “for quality assurance” and use as proof they give me the info I need right from a phone call 🤣

I love how EVERY SINGLE video showing off Siri's "support questions" feature, INCLUDING Apple's keynote itself, ALL ONLY show "how to schedule a text", as if all the reviewers know that Siri isn't *actually any better* on this front other than that ONE piece of info.

After seeing googles gemini, apples AI looks very far back behind.. I used to love IPhone but more and more I feel I pay mainly for the brand Apple than for actually good functionality.

I’ve been using type to Siri for years, just like that. To set my alarms, use timers, etc. Don’t know why people think it is new.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Why spend money on upgrades just for Apple's smart features when things like proofreading, rewriting nicely, sounding professional, or making summaries can all be done easily with the ChatGPT app?

What's the point of Siri if it can't even change settings for us? How is it different from ChatGPT's voice feature? ChatGPT seems to do these things much better.

Are there other things Apple's smart stuff can do that ChatGPT can't?

Tap for Siri seems redudant but is a nice UX being able to double tap and ask something about the current context in the future like "what is this?" at something you are seeing on your screen at that time

Great summary, I’m finding this type of AI use fantastic.
Some of them were cool looking like the Disney photo album collage… but overall, I think this will definitely disrupt how we interact with our phones (and devices in general) in a major way, finally.
Found them quite fast to trigger too… the 8AM alarm is set basically instantly.
Curious about the final release.
