We test our 5700XT eGPU with every MacBook to see if it's still worth it in 2020!

eGPUs are very popular for MacBooks since they can give a huge boost in graphics performance for everything from gaming, 3D rendering and things like video editing in Final Cut Pro X!

However, in 2020, we now know that Apple is planning to switch to their own ARM-based processors within the next 2 years, so we discuss if Windows 10 in Boot Camp and eGPUs will be supported on the new ARM Macs.

We also show you guys which MacBooks in 2020 are worth it if you're thinking about buying an eGPU.

We tested the MacBook Air, both of the 13" MacBook Pro models, and the 16" MacBook Pro, including the 5600M GPU model to see which MacBooks gain the most from eGPUS.

I was going to get the MBA, but I started to do deeper digging and I saw it heats quickly, so I’m getting the MBP.

whenever you're going to talk about egpu's or dual graphics cards in play, you have to put in Davinci Resolve.

You just clear my mind into getting a 16” mbp with 5600M graphic card...

Thanks! I recently purchased a 13 inch MacBook Pro (10th gen CPU) with a Red Devil 5700 XT housed in the Razer Core X and I’m loving it!

I love the shot of the 5700 XT for $379.99. I wish I could buy one for that price today.

Depending on what Apple does with the MacBook Air. That’ll determine what kind of MacBook I upgrade too. Good work on sharing this info Vadim.

sorry but these conclusions are incomplete. They only apply to Final Cut Pro which is currently not optimized at all for the use of eGPUs. If you take the time to do some tests on DaVinci Resolve the conclusions will be opposite even when comparing the 5600M with the RX5700XT in eGPU configuration. And perhaps you would discover that it is not true that the RX5700XT performs better than the Radeon VII.

Great video!
I was about to sell and upgrade my 16" with a 5600M but I just couldn't justify the almost 1200dollars I would have to cough up instead of just buying a eGPU solution with a RTX2060 Super for 600USD.
So I bought a eGPU and I am happily using it for my gaming adventures on Windows 10 as I don't use my MacBook Pro as a video editing machine.
Using Nvidia on Windows is SO plug'n'play, no need for those USB C Port Swapping and custom EFI files shenanigans ...

I wanted to point out, Mac Mini was not mentioned and it benefits the most of eGPU. Also new AMD graphics cards are dropping this year, faster than 5700xt and works in the same eGPU enclosure.

it was confirmed that the M1 SoC will NOT support eGPU... sad....

9 seconds for the 13 inch model with the external eGPU? could it be a typo? the rest show usually times around 15 secs. This is around 4:10

This was extremely useful, I've just purchased the 13" Pro with 10th Gen processor, wishing I got the base 16" but couldn't afford it right now. I share the laptop with my wife, so the use case is different for us both. An external GPU would suit me, and I'm glad to see that they perform well with the 13", also glad to see that I don't have to shell out as much as if I were buying the 16" model.

From 6:43- A solution to that round trip, in boot camp at least, is to output the graphics from the egpu directly to external monitor.
Would be very nice if egpu could feedback its data through a second tb3 port directly to the built in screen 🤷🏽‍♂️
