The late Queen actually calmed her horse and was riding side saddle when someone shot from crowd at the trooping of the colour. A yearly celebration for our late queens birthday. The best one was when she hosted a Saudi prince -- and women were not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia at the time. She hosted him at Balmoral and apparently whipped around the little back roads up there while driving him around -- fast enough to make him grips the armrests!

She was once out talking a walk with bodyguards in Scotland. A couple of tourists pass and they said hello of course and began chatting, they asked if Queen & the bodyguards had ever seen the queen. They said no, no one usually sees her. Off the tourists went not knowing they had actually just met and spoken to her. 😂

During ww2 the royal family had the same rations as everyone else here. When they could have quite easily had whatever they wanted. It was said to be showing their solidarity with ordinary people, it worked! The queen mother would go visit soldiers, badly damaged areas, WRVS stations…every kind of place you can imagine.
