Why recommend xfce only for old computers? It's also better on new computers! Better and more configurable window management features, great standards adherence, and more

Windows is planned obsolescence at it's finest. It's actually unbelievable how well mint and Linux in general works on old hardware, It's like having a brand new PC again. Also, you can change the look of the top bar or the filesystem itself in the Themes setting if you prefer dark.

Wait, why does my menu look completely different? It changed drastically since I updated it, like the taskbar became smaller, there was a second taskbar, and the window menu at the top of every windows became thinner

The top white pannel can be changed as dark. In Appearance>Style>"Set matching Xfwm4 theme if there is one", just toggle on it.

Hi i am a newbie in this realm, and i am interested to give life to my old laptop Asus TP200s. It has 2gb ram and 64gb HDD. So my question here is, which linux OS is suitable for my old laptop. Lubuntu or Linux mint? Please advice.

Hello fellow Linux enthusiast, may I put your channel on the list of featured channels at the bottom of my channel page?
I have been using Linux Mint Mate 21.2 for a while, I think when I downloaded it, it was on version 21.1 or 21.0.
Thanks for spreading awareness of the options available.

Been a Mint user for at least ten years. Used it as dual boot with windows 7 on my crappy netbook. Mint Xfce is really responsive for my 4-core intel with 4g ram netbook. Netbook broke not because of overheating. The screen pixel died. So, Mom gave her crappy netbook. 4 core amd with 2gb of usable ram because the other 2gb is used for graphics rendering. Installed Mint XFCE 20.1 on it but everything jittery with overheat. Tried Mint Mate but the results are the same. But I love Mint Update Manager and other pre-installed apps by the Mint team. The solution was to install LXDE. Customize defaults Lxsession with Caja File Manager as desktop manager and Xfwm4 as window manager. And I also increase the swapfile size. Love it. Even use it at work until I gave it to my niece who can't afford a laptop.

just for the sake of trying, i have an very old system from 2005, Celeron D, single core ar 2.53GHz, 2 GB DDR1, FX5200 as i remember..., also has 2 native SATA ports (that i never used with a SSD back than, cause from 2013 was put to rest).
Can i revive it with this new version, has all the old necessary drivers ?
Someone told me that for very old systems older versions are safer, ex. 17.3

not properly tested in my view.
after install, i find in the log files every day, failed to start md5 check on live iso, why is it trying to check a live iso after install ? also, almost all of the icon sets are unusable because of errors.
in my view mint cinnamon 20.1 edge was the last best iso they made, i'm sure they could do better.
ibm os2 v2.11 was the best their was mid 90s but they stopped listening to testers and users. v3 was a backward step and v4 was hopeless.
more testing and listening to users please.

''I guess that's the bottom panel...I think this is the clipboard, oh no its not, but I'm not gonna bother with it...I'm not exactly sure what this is, but let me ramble on and point out some obvious stuff, hoping they wont notice that I don't have any idea what I'm talking about so I can get some shekels from YouTube...''
