Today we're focusing on the often debated subject of longevity pharmaceuticals vs longevity supplements. Supplements such as NMN, Spermidine, Ca-AKG, and Creatine go head to head with prescription drug favorites such as Rapamycin and Metformin. In this short presentation, life extension researcher and author Ryker Black explains the pros and cons of todays longevity medications compared to over the counter health supplements, a subject that's very hard to find qualified information on.

"Underground Life Extension" Recommended! This book cover almost everything (hormones, peptides, supplements, anabolic compounds, autophagy inducers ect.) by far!
One of the best books on the field!

I agree with hormone optimization being #1 as far as “medication” goes for life extension. Rapamycin, Acarbose, Tadalafil, Taurine, etc are all potentially great but everything starts with keeping hormones optimal.

By taking Liposomal Selenium and Iodine I have managed to improve my thyroid function and my blood work had my Thyroid numbers in healthy range. Also My estradiol levels where to high and I take Liposomal DIM to help that. Will probably need to get on T therapy though.

Would be cool to see a comparison of PQQ supplements. Having cycled it a few times it seems to do quite a bit for me; but its still rather expensive, so itd be great to know whats legit.

Very good review of the space, always balanced comments. My take on any drugs or supplements is what is the impact on mitochondria wich is among the leading variable on longevity. Therefore Meformin for one among your list is problematic because it impairs on the mitochondria energy producing. I am trying to keep my mitochondria healthy which is a direct corelation to Vo2 max. I would be interested to know your take on nitric oxyde supplements and how do we measure efficacy on mitochondria atp production. Thanks

Your list of the most popular anti-aging supplements didn't include glycine and taurine.
I would like to see more about how vitamins and minerals affect our most important hormones.
For example, we belive boron has such effects.
I suspect most of us could also optimize selenium and iodine to keep the thyroid healthy.
We do have an RDA for those, but no one seems to look for optimum levels of them,

Now, I don't really belive we have any anti-aging supplements. All we can do for now is avoiding deficiencies (and perhaps abundances) causing premature aging. And that's is, in my opinion, a compleatly different thing. We can squander, let's say 8 years, of good health by not optimizing things. But that's all!

Could you do a video looking at Multivitamins and minerals for over 50s men, I believe most men take them but not sure which are what they say and we all take them for the long term. Thank you

Mate I really love your work - I want buy DNA d3 k2 & mag supplement but do not age hasn’t provided me with any lab certifications of there purity - would there be any chance I could see your labatory results for this product? Maybe post in the comments or even email them to me ? Transparencies is key for your followers - to prove that u test all do not age products would be a great way to ensure full trust to your YouTube channel - look forward to see some lab test results 😊

I don't understand how Metformin is considered a "Longevity Supplement" when it inhibits the Mitochondrial Respiratory-Chain Complex 1 and as a result decreases NADH oxidation. Can someone explain that to me please?

I would like to suggest a Lutein, zeaxanthin, and Meso-zeaxanthin supplement review. I read Lutein to Zeaxanthin should be in a 5:1 ration about 25 mg to 5 mg and Meso-zeaxanthin should be ballpark 9-10mg.

Stringham & Stringham (2016):
Supplementation: Tested three doses with consistent ratios.
Low Dose: 4 mg lutein, 0.8 mg zeaxanthin, 1.4 mg meso-zeaxanthin.
Medium Dose: 13 mg lutein, 2.7 mg zeaxanthin, 4.5 mg meso-zeaxanthin.
High Dose: 27 mg lutein, 5.4 mg zeaxanthin, 9 mg meso-zeaxanthin.
Outcome: Dose-dependent increases in serum carotenoids and MPOD.
Ratio: Approximately 5:1 across all doses.

Ma et al. (2016):
Supplementation: 10 mg lutein, 2 mg zeaxanthin, and 10 mg meso-zeaxanthin daily.
Outcome: Significant increase in MPOD.
Ratio: 5:1 (lutein to zeaxanthin).
