This really touched me.
I’m a corporate paralegal living comfortably and only got where I am by the grace of god and the generosity of my boss.
When I got back into law, it had been after nearly a decade of substance abuse and extreme poverty. Idk what made me come to my senses, but one day at age 29, I got up and decided to just do everything I could to make things right in my life. It took a few years but eventually I found myself in an interview for an admin position for a law firm and I managed to impress the managing partner with my honesty and passion for learning so much that he actually gave me a shot.
Fast forward to present day and I sit second chair on multi million dollar cases with him. I take care of everything he needs on a daily basis and I’m loyal to a fault to this man and his firm.
My life is so amazing today because of one person’s compassion and hope.

I plan on sending Judge C a check today because I’d love to be able to help anyone the way someone else helped me.

She’s incredibly genuine too. When she said payment plan, I nearly cried too.

I think this lady and her baby are lovely. And I am glad that she could get a break. I also think it's wonderful that she is managing so well and going to school while working and caring for her child and really making an effort to make a good life for her and her child.

BUT (and here I will say something very unpopular), as a pedestrian, I cannot count the number of times that I have nearly been run over by people running the red and especially running the red to go around the corner, while I had the green light and the right of way. It was only my paying attention, and often jumping out of the way that I was not run over. And when I call 'hey!' (never swear words, never names, only just 'hey!' to catch the person's attention), I am met with lifted fingers and verbal abuse as if it is my fault that they are going through the red and nearly killed me in the process.

So, yes, while I have sympathy for this person's situation, I have no sympathy for the idea of endangering other people's lives for want of a short moment's stop *on the red light* to check if the way is clear. Those of us walking through our cities are usually also working hard to make lives for ourselves and our families, and all of us have a story to tell, and none of us deserves to be harmed or even killed by someone going through a red light.
