Thank you so much. I'm 13 months post break, 6 months post second surgery. My insurance denied PT and my ankle hasn't improved much as far as walking goes, but these exercises are making a pretty drastic difference after just a week.

These are the exercises my physical therapy have me doing. I’m recovering from a broken ankle and it’s a very hard road to recovery

Thanks for these exercises! After 8 weeks my cast came off. I will be able to start with your first exercises before I'll see my physiotherapist. It feels daunting to start as everything is still sore. What I like about your exercises is that they start at the very beginning of the process 👍🏻

I’m on day 50 post orthoscopic ankle surgery.
Age: 22, male
Injury: February 2022
Surgery: Aug 31st 2022

I sprained my ankle in the worst possible way you can. Ligament damage, cartilage damage, post traumatic arthritis, and a dip in my bone.

This is how my recovery has been looking so far.

0-2 weeks: completely bed ridden, lots of pain.
Day 10: so much pain, my lowest point, I lost all hope.
Day 25: minimal pain sitting or resting, foot could only bear 40-70lb
Day 26: first time standing up, couldn’t move or anything, just standing in place.
Day 29: foot bearing 93 pounds max
Day 34: 100 pounds max
Day 35: beginning walking with crutches instead of hoping.
Day 46: 118 pounds max.
Day 48: alcohol suppressed my pain to a point where I could walk without any issues.
Day 50: could walk with slight pain, able to stand on leg (180lb) but no stability.

Recovery is strange, especially if you haven’t been through any or haven’t seen someone else go through it. There is periods of time where it feels like over a week has past and you have had 0 progress, then there’s times where over a few days it seems like there’s been a miracle. Patience is virtue.

During the first week I iced and elevated a lot. After that I gradually became lazy and didn’t do much. I just didn’t push it too much. I started going out occasionally after 2 weeks. Started doing exercise for like 5-10 mins a day after day 40.

Western Trust, you are truly a blessing! The exercises you provided in this video has assisted me while I await an opening to come available for physical therapy to begin. My ankle is feeling very strong with your instructions. As per my orthopedic doctor, if I continue make the progress I'm making with utilizing your exercises, I may be able to pass on physical therapy if an opening doesn't come up soon. Thank you Western Trust, keep making these much needed videos!

Despite an open fracture, I stubbornly refused to pay for the physical therapy in the US. Don’t have the money. Already doing these exercises, appreciate the confirmation!

Fantastic video. Suffered a Weber C fracture 3 weeks ago and was told that here in Edinburgh they don't give physio post fracture any more. These exercises look great for my rehab. Thanks so much 👍

My fracture was recent. Have had no surgery but wearing air boot. Ankle healing but slowly i was told. Still walking like i have a club foot 🙁 When i turn foot a certain way, feels like something shifts on the ankle. Its weird. So cautious about every move. This is just awful

Can these exercises be done when you still have the screws from surgery in your leg? Or are they done only after the surgery to remove the screws ? Thank you

Thanks for the video, it made a lot of sense to me and most importantly I am following your advice with respects to the exercises. Though we all have a unique situation, in terms of fracture and recovery, I would like to know if you can guide me in terms of what I can do; your advice in turn may help countless people. I had a motorcycle accident in 2020 where my ankle bone (medial malleolus) came out completely (particles of asphalt got encrusted in parts of the cartilage) and the fibula broke. Right now, I'm unable to completely flex my left foot, since therapy in the country is not as good as in the States. I would love to recover completely, though I know it is a process, but it's been three years and I am now leaving the cane at home. I was very athletic during my years, and I still love playing basketball and other sports. Is there anything I can do to fully recover the flexibility and full movement of the ankle?

Is that guy having therapy or is he a model. Both ankles look equally flexible. Mine is like a brick.

12 weeks post surgery on comminuted calcaneus fracture. Very painful to bear weight. It feels like distinct pressure points are hurting. I'm hoping with proper PT that this gets better and back to normal over time. Lots of physio to go.

I can do most of these but rotating my foot, or the top of my foot/ankle when I try walking is still quite painfull. I went from non weight bearing to "pick up your bed and walk" with only a thin ankle brace. Is it supposed to be painful enough that I keep limping? My Dr. won't let me use my crutches anymore after 4 weeks without the boot, but after I tried walking from the car to the front of the store I ended up taking pain killers. The first week I was just getting my foot on the floor without a pain shooting up my heel and leg. So I've only really been walking 3 weeks. I also have osteoperosis. Being in America and having so many medical bills, I he wants me to go to PT three times a week, but I cannnot afford it - he doesn't get that.
