One of the biggest missed opportunities from this switch is that the revelation about Tysha causes Tyrion to tell Jaime about Cersei cheating on him. Tyrion is so mad at Jaime when he tells the truth, that he can’t help but tell Jaime about Cersei being unfaithful to him, because he wants to hurt Jaime for lying to him about Tysha. And Jaime, after learning this, begins to finally break free from Cersei and distancing himself from her the more time goes on.

So, even though it causes a rift to form between the brothers, it does set them on the paths that they may be meant to go on because of this experience. But, I did like the show’s version too. Just not as much as the book’s original version.

Can’t believe the show didn’t have Jaime tell Tyrion the truth about Tysha. In the book Tyrion got so mad he smacked Jaime so hard he fell over because he was crouched to try and comfort Tyrion as he told the truth. Would’ve loved to see that in the show with two amazing actors who were perfectly cast as Jaime and Tyrion.

"And against all the rumors, Tywin Lannister did not, in fact, shit gold."

Gives the "whore" name calling so much more impact when it's about a first time young lover than a prostitute he met during his first time war partying.

Tyrion and meeting his daughter is the storyline we need

How would Tywin Lannister have felt to have a granddaughter is beautiful as Cersei and smart as Tyrion plus the fact that it is tyrion's offspring

Also after Tyrion was told the truth about Tysha, he now hates his whole family including Jaime, unlike the book where he loved Jaime to the end.
They really ruined that poor girl life who did no damage to no one.

I still can’t believe they made this change in the show. ESPECIALLY when they made it seem like Tyrion was in love with Shae. When in the book he did have feelings for her but always knew he would never be loved back. All because of Tysha. The moment when Jamie confessed this to Tyrion I literally dropped my book and couldn’t believe what I just read. Tysha really loved Tyrion, and he loved her. But that was taken away from him the most horrific way. SUCH a missed opportunity in the show.

The change of Shae being in love vs just using him was interesting

Currently about halfway through A Dance with Dragons, it’s criminal how much better the books are than the show. Like there is no comparison.

The whole Tysha plot in the book is absolutely and utterly fucked up. And it’s probably the single most evil thing Tywin does before the red wedding. Especially when you consider the truth and all that it implies with what Tyrion was forced to watch. Yeesh it’s just bad, so honestly I get why it’s cut it’s pretty extreme even for a show like game of thrones. Although I will admit this whole revelation being cut is exactly what ruins Tyrions character in the later seasons.

Tyrion's travels in Essos is fundamentally different too in the books.

Shea was a gold digger, Tysha genuinely love Tyrion.

He says he cares for his family. And he has an entire army rape his daughter in law. That's another level of viciousness

There is another theory that Lanna is actually the daughter of one of Tyrion's uncles (Gerion, maybe? Whichever one went looking for Bright Roar, the Lannister Valyrian steel sword that was lost).

One of the things i really hated that the show did was have Shae try to attack Tyrion when he finds her in his father's bed. In the book she turns back into the lovey version of herself, promising to love him and begging him to take her away with him.. and then he coldly strangles her. Who Tyrion is fundamentally changes that night in his father's room and killing Shae not out of self defense but out of anger is a big part of it.
