Did You Know This About The Killing Curse In HARRY POTTER…

While most of the spell incantations in this series are in Latin, Avada Kedavra is not! This is an Aramaic phrase that means "I will destroy as I speak." Interestingly, it is also similar to "Abracadabra," which is an ancient spell that dates from the second century used by conjurors to invoke spirits or supernatural powers for protection against disease or aid!

I really thought Rowling just took abracadabra, butchered it a bit to make it not sound too silly, and made it the most taboo spell in her novels. Shit cracked me up as a kid cause I couldn't stop seeing the villains as party magicians every time they used it.

I once had a copy of the Potter movies that were so badly substiteld (english is not my first language so i needed the as a kid), that when Voldemort says "Avada Kedavra" the subtitels said "Abracadabra!". We threw the disks away after that.

I always took it as there was an evil wizard back in the day and he was offing muggles and they were some close enough to faintly hear but far away enough not to be 100%. So the ones who survived mistranslated it to abra cadabra

Abra kadabra is for the muggles, so the real killing curse won't be used should a muggle happen to have latent magical abilities and accidentally kill someone.
