PIG is a 2021 drama starring Nicolas Cage and Alex Wolff about a reclusive truffle hunter that gets his truffle hunting pig abducted. And their quest to find the animal again takes them into downtown Portland. Which is full of interesting characters evocative of Fight Club, Neverwhere, and John Wick. In fact, the whole thing is almost like if John Wick was instead a serious drama.

In this vid, we discuss the plot point by point, and analyze the deeper meanings of this film. With some general review and and criticisms as well.

This is one of Nicolas Cage’s best performances. Up there with Adaptation and Vampires Kiss. Do they find the Declaration of Independence under pioneer courthouse square? Find out

Guest appearance by Cricket the cat.

My wife and I loved this film -- we just watched it this past weekend.

As for the meal at the end, yes, this was THE meal that Robin made all those years ago (never forgetting the meals he cooked or the people he served).

And, from personal experience, the scene where Darius eats and begins crying is entirely realistic. We tend to rely so heavily upon vision, followed behind by hearing, and with very little attention to our other three senses: touch, taste, and smell. It isn't so much that our sense of smell isn't as good as, say a dog's, but that we have de-emphasized it and have a smaller vocabulary with which to discuss that aspect of our sensory experience. What this means is that, especially for taste and smell, these senses easily bypass our consciously calculating part of the brain, and so can immediately conjure up memory in a way that even a photograph cannot.

And I have experienced something very much like what Darius did in Pig. Several years ago, my grandmother had died. About four or five years afterward, I was in an Italian restaurant. It was an average day, and nothing had been troubling me at all. I wasn't even thinking about my grandmother. The tables had white cloth napkins. At one point I lifted my napkin to wipe my mouth and I *instantly* burst into tears. It was so unexpected but my grandmother immediately came to my mind and I felt shattered. What on earth was happening to me? I had to go to the restroom to compose myself. I then realized why I was suddenly overcome with emotion: it was the clothes detergent they used to clean the napkins. I don't know what kind of detergent it was, but I knew that it was the exact same kind that my grandmother used. Not once did it ever note the smell of the things my grandmother washed, but I did that evening. I knew. It brought back a flood of memories all at once.

That scene in Pig brought back that unforgettable moment for me.

The junkies didn't deny it. They said they didn't have the pig anymore. They sold her.

This movie was excellent, depressing but seriously excellent. If this helps at all the couple that took the pig were tweakers, I watch all my movies with closed captioning and whenever they are on scene they are referred to as tweakers. I know it’s a small detail but that detail becomes very important in the larger scheme of the story thats being told

Great interpretation. I do appreciate your choice to not edit out the funny disruptions. The wonderful analysis was wonderfully juxtaposed against the kitty and gunshot. lol

Nice review! It seems like it’s too slow paced of a movie so this review was everything I needed to know.

We had an underground restaurant fight club. Well, it was boxing, not fighting. It got busted.

David Lynch: YES. I sense a strong Mulholland Drive presence here: the bum.

I don’t get it when people describe this movie as “a masterpiece” 💤
I agree about the dark lighting, very irritating.
I’m just glad I waited to watch it and I got to see it for free. I would’ve been annoyed if I paid for it

Was it a real gun shot? What were the sliding noises after the bang as well?
