In listening to this talk by Jordan Peterson there may well be some mixing of different ancient cultures, but when we consider that Dr Peterson is a Professor of Psychology we should look at this in terms of psychology and not of history. It is the SYMBOLISM that matters here and not the characters. It should be noted that the 'gods' of ancient times were not mere historical figures but were, in the term used by Carl Jung - 'archetypes'. Of course, Jung used this term in order not to discredit his work in psychology, though the term 'gods' may be more accurate, and Jung was certainly versed in ancient religions.


It is interesting to note that one comment suggested that Norse Mythology had a similar legend about the creation; this is also true of the ancient Hindu Texts. This ancient myth tells how a Primal 'Giant' was slain and his body cut into various pieces; the slaying was done by Odin-Vili-Ve, aspects of the same god-force. This is indeed interesting in view of the 'As Above - So Below' idea since the cosmos is thus formed as man is formed; this is reflected in the pieces of the body which also form the most ancient Indo-European Caste System - Head (The Brain = Priest-King-Kon), Arms (Warrior-Noble-Earls), Groin (Fertility/Farmer-Provider - Karls) and Feet (Thralls). It should also be noted that the Primal Giant is YM-IR, the first part perhaps pronounced 'OOM' ('OM') - his name actually means both 'Twin' and 'Sounder'.


One woodcut of the god Odin shows him with the Trident-Thunderbolt as shown in the figure of Ninurta (Marduk here); he is also a God of the Spear. One interesting point is that the god Ninurta (Ningursu) is born of a wife-sister union, a common form amongst the Vanir-Gods of the North. Prime amongst the Vanir-Gods is Ingui-Frey ('Ing-Lord') whose name appears in N-Ing-Ur-Su, although this is pure speculation. The symbol of Ningursu is the Double-Headed Eagle I believe. Ingui-Frey seems to mean 'Master/Lord of Inga', and this name is akin to the Vedic Agni (Inga spelled backwards). Inga is connected to the Fire-Serpent as his name suggests - Ingwe has roots in a word meaning 'serpent', as well as 'groin'. The 'Gift of Ing' is 'Fire' and the Old English Rune shows a glyph of the DNA Spiral - he is the 'Hero-God' and gave his name to the Ing-lish (we still keep the original sound today).


It seems that Ningursu is seen by some to be the biblical Nimrod, the 'Mighty Hunter'; this is also interesting since it is little-known that the figure of Robin Hood stems from the English form 'Woden' or 'Hooden' and he is a figure wielding a Bow and Arrow. He is also connected to the Constellation of Orion the Hunter. We find this figure in that of the bow-wielding god connected to the Winged Disc in various cultures. From his writings Carl Jung had experience of the 'Wild Hunter-God' in a dream prior to the death of his mother - Wotan.

The story of Marduk is about the creation of the world when he kills Tiamat by spitting her dragon from in half he makes the world about of the bottom half and the sky out of the top half.

Also the war of the Gods was started when Ea and his brothers ran over the water making so much noise Apsu and Tiamat the frist beings to exist could get no rest so Apsu planned to ally with some of the 1sr/2nd generation God's to kill Ea but Ea found out and killed Apsu, so then Tiamat made an army of monsters and declared war on Ea and the other Gods. Then Ea had a son Marduk to be a Herculese like figure to kill the monsters but he did so on condition that he would be king.

I knew that Dr. Peterson hasn't made lectures on the history of black metal and symbolisms thereof but that would have been awesome... Though I'd want him to start with Darkthrone :D
Or one on the reception/use of ancient mythology in metal. Even if we stay with Mesopotamia, there are bands called Absu and Tiamat^^
Also, Watain mention Kingu in Waters of Ain and so on and so on.

Captured in a net of gravity, battered by asteroid and moon impacts and shattered by the stronger gravity of Marduk giving us our asteroid belt and leaving a large chunk of Tiamat to become our Earth. Also picking up one of Marduk's moon's leftover from the battle as Marduk continued on its orbit.

He skips over a few important points. One more important than all. Apsu and mummu (His counsel) were sharing the complaint about their children being "loud". They plotted, she (Tia-mat) overheard and tells her children. She is the cause of the rise. NOt too soon after, she realizes she should have helped her husband instead of standing by as he was murdered.

Its the story of creation of the entire universe. You have the planets that are the Gods. The organisation of the gods was Venus, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto, Jupiter taking their place around the Sun/Mardruk. The Sun or some energy or star higher than the Sun made sure the chaos of the big bang, Tiamat, was cut up to make order with her pieces. Then the Earth turned stable. Giving the chance for life to develop but it was with kingu and Tiamats blood/pieces.

This would mean that Enki was a deity from the waters. The waters on earth or the cosmic waters above. Creating men on Earth. In what way I dont know. Either in a scientific evolutionairy way, especially if they mean the waters from Earth or literal sumerian way. Enki could also mean Neptune. With his brother Uranus as Enlil.

During explotions and movements of stars many parts of other planets, crystals, minerals and maybe bacteria/life landed/developed on Earth making man who later personify the life giving planet as the god Enki.

Or it happend on univerisal scale and here on Earth aswell like an echo. As we are part of the same lightwave after the big bang.. That keeps expanding in another level. As above so below. But its definitly all connected to the planets.

1. Some of the critics here are either idiots or trolls, making reference to video game mythology and conspiracy theories.
2. Others seem to criticize this as being inaccurate on the basis that it bears no resemblance to Akkadian or Sumerian mythology. To these people I say, look up the Enuma Elis, creation myth of the Babylonians. Over time religious traditions evolve and this was the status quo at the time of the Babylonians, many centuries after the Sumerians and Akkadians that you study that were also part of Mesopotamia.

Please, do some research before you criticize.

I am doing Sumerian and Akkadian professionally, and I can only say that I am horrified by this idiotic stuff. Also, the picture he continually shows? That's NOT Marduk and Tiamat, that's an Assyrian relief depicting Ninurta and Azag.
