Hey there, gamers! Welcome back to our channel. Today, we're diving deep into the world of gaming on Linux. Yup, you heard that right! Linux isn't just for coding wizards and tech geeks anymore; it's making waves in the gaming community too. But is it all sunshine and rainbows, or are there some storm clouds lurking? Let's find out together.

5 Reasons Why Linux is Good for Gaming:
1. Linux supports more games than ever before.
2. Plug-and-play support for many controllers.
3. Pre-installed Nvidia drivers on select distributions.
4. Recent drivers have improved shader compilation on AMD GPUs.
5. Tons of utility tools.

5 Places Where Linux Still Lacks As Compared to Windows:
1. Restrictive DRM doesn't like Linux.
2. Third-party launcher woes on Linux.
3. Linux emulator support is a little lacking.
4. Linux sports fewer third-party tools.
5. Windows gives you the latest and greatest, day one.

Ugh. With ML models becoming so accessible, the internet is slowly dying. Everything is fucking AI generated.

I've been gaming exclusively on Linux for the last five years with no more issues than when I was on Windows.
And the best is that I'm not going to end up with ads in my start menu. XD

That’s quite some AI voice you got there, huh?

Well, you’re wrong about launchers for sure. Linux’s are generally community run and they are designed to let the user run and manage their games as easily as possible. They do not try to restrict you to certain stores - not even Steam. (You can add external games)

It just runs the dumb proprietary launchers for you, runs the game, and closes them back down.

I wish this AI could pick one pronunciation of 'Linux' and go with it.

Sehr gutes Video.

Actually no.1 reason to game on linux is because windows sucks more and more with each update. Never mind all the data Microsft gets about you, but your PC is not even your PC anymore. You are forced to sign in with your Microsoft account, so their server decide when and if you are allow to use your pc, Microsft reads everything you type in Office, you got ads in everything now from file browser, start menu, even in the shut down screen. You wrote something in a Word document that Microsoft does not like, you can't use your pc anymore. I am not buying a 2-3000 Euro PC to beg Microsoft for permision to use it.

DRM-problems are as good as solved since the SteamDeck launched (Valve fixed it for most of the games back then). I don't think that we should mind some games getting blocked on Linux due to kernel-level anti-cheat not being supported, we should not want that to run on our system anyway, it is too dangerous and too privacy-invading. Yes, it happens at times that launchers break, the EA-launcher broke a few times in the last years but it always got fixed, the Ubisoft launcher is a mess, I would recommend to avoid Ubisoft-games if you game on Linux. For example, Far Cry 3 still didn't work properly the last time that I tried it, a few years ago. In regard to gaming on Linux in general, mostly it is fine (outside the mentioned issues) but there are some exceptions. Most of the games which I play have native-level performance, some small differences (both bad and good) but near the same level. Here an example of an exception. I have been playing Borderlands3 recently and that game still is a bit broken 5 years after launch. I can't exactly put my finger on the problem but when you play the game for some time eventually you get bad stutter: 100-200 ms spikes for 1 framewith an average FPS of 80-110. This could be explained by either compiling shaders - which should be precompiled - or by bad memory-management. Just waiting on the same spot for a while can solve it. But this is the exception, it is more a developer-problem than a Linux-gaming-problem but it could be worse on Linux than on Windows if it is caused by shaders having to get compiled while running the game due to it needing to be done twice when you use dxvk.

Pick one way to pronounce Linux and stick with it!
I've swapped to Linux and a change was made on installing the ESO game with Lutris, so I had to use Steam. Otherwise, I've had zero other issues.

I didn't even make it in 30 seconds into the video before stopping it. FFS, even the video description is AI generated

If Fortnite ever embraces Linux then I will have nothing stopping me from switching over. Until then I still need windows but I’m loving the progress that’s been made in the last few years.

Will Linux support Train Simulator Classic with RailDriver hardware support anytime soon? Or am I stuck with Windows until I cannot cough up anymore money to upgrade due to not limited to inflation?

it depends.... it depends on the games, it depends on the distro and it depends on the GPU. easiest way it's the steamdeck. the major it's Anti cheat, and there's a lot extras that can't work on Linux well yet. also... cut the AI voice man :/

Then kernel anti-cheat is throwing at us to set back the linux gamming community, thought I'll be honest at least we're free and safe from that! And actually some of those intrusive anti-cheats are now linux compatible by running in user-space (not kernel)... Still some anti-cheats are not compatible yet! A good thing also is that some distros can even work with containers seamlessly, witch means that less trusted software can only exist inside a container and not polluting the host OS.
