Lack of awareness is spot on. My wife is Canadian. She has no idea she married an American.

For everyone who thinks Canada is this Utopia where racism doesn’t exist, go talk to a Mowhawk in Kahnawake Quebec and ask them how harmonious the country is.

As a Michigander, we basically view them as our second cousins. And most of us welcome Canadians here openly and we even fly the Canadian flag in some areas, especially at MIS in Brooklyn. Lots of rich, deep history between Michigan and Canada.

A friend of mine in Wales🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 actually said it best that, in regards to military might and overall mentality, it could be said that the U.S.🇺🇸 is the son closest to the father🇬🇧. Canada🇨🇦 is the well-behaved first born but Uncle Sam is the rebellious son more like the father in his prime (which the father hates to admit😂).

I had the privilege to be in New York for a few days. That is now 6 years ago, it was so nice, the people are so helpful. Saw the tree on Rockefeller, went to Central Park, saw the craziness in front of Trump Tower, spend some time reflecting on the three friends I lost during 9/11 yeah it left a very remarkable memory. Quite overwhelming actually and I am not one to be shut up quickly. Waking up and just see the sun over the city, lady liberty, yeah.... but that you see T.O. and I know I am home.

Love the comment about lack of self awareness .. it is always interesting finding those of us ignorant to Canadian issues .. Broski! 😄

The self-awareness issue usually applies to Americans who romanticize the idea of Canada and not the other way around in my personal experience. Also it’s very easy as someone who isn’t part of an underclass in the country to think “everything is going great” and since most of my friends are minorities maybe that’s why I’ve never heard the sentiment she’s referring to 🤷🏽‍♂️

the girl who answered with "lack of self awareness" was literally just reciting America's stereotype which makes her answer pretty ironic. We in America seem to conclude that anything we hear about a different country is fact, I'm sure there's probably a marginal number of Americans that think all Brits have tea and crumpets everyday at 4:00pm

When I heard that girl say that Canadians had a “lack of self-awareness “ I thought- oh god, she’s really going to get some backlash

Canadian here. Nice comments. And trust me, we know we got issues! As a bonus, we got a nasty winter! Would love to chat but got to plan my family road trip to DC. 😊

The self awareness thing is horseshit. Trust me when I say Canadians (in particular in Ontario) know we aren't the nicest people and are fully aware of the social, economic and political issues we face similar to that of the US. We are more aware of these things than anyone else. In recent years Toronto and the surrounding area has gone to complete dog shit as far as crime and socioeconomic status. It's others from outside of Canada that give us the reputation for our politeness and demeanor. But walk around Toronto on a busy Friday afternoon and tell me what you really think of us lol. Or don't. We'll embarrass ourselves more than likely

If you notice when he asked "What is the first thing you think about when I say Toronto?" He pronounces the second "t" which we don't really say. If you listen close to their response you can tell that it is kind of skipped over.

Most Canadians don't like USAER'S yet most constantly come here so I guess the self awareness makes sense...I at first thought that was wrong to say.

Cool video. wish their was more footage. I just spent 7 days in NYC for the first time and loved it. I'm from Toronto. I realized we are exactly the same but so different haha. American's are just diffrent people than us. But i love them. So many characters and personalities. I sure as hell know NYC isn't 'USA' but damn, some of the most sincere people in the world. When you say "thanks man have a good day' after buying a pack of smokes, they go "yeah man, you too", And really mean it. In canada that response isnt as often haha. Go USA and go NYC!! Also, get yo asses up to Toronto for a vaca/trip, ma fcks!!

I went to Denmark recently and people can IMMEDIATELY tell I was Canadian (and not American) yet I've always been ignorant in thinking I don't have an accent

I gotta admit that some of us don't push our opinions. Don't mistake this for apathy. We make mistakes, like everyone, and like everyone, we also have a dark history. However, we don't seem to currently have that many who wish to return to it. Truth and Reconciliation Day is a good example of Canada acknowledging what our ancestors did wrong. So please don't be too hasty answering for all of us.
