If you're American, I'd like to hear from you. What are some misconceptions that people around the world might have about the U.S. and its culture?

Let's keep the discussion both critical and courteous of each other. In other words, nuanced. 👍

the first girl is so smart. That’s exactly the biggest difference. Europeans are more about what’s best for society. American’s are about what’s best for me. Individualism vs more social setting in Europe.

It’s kind of sad that the only exposure they get about America is media or politics. Even though only a couple hundred years old, the U.S. has many many different cultures, accents, and traditions varying between states and even within states. The only thing that’s general is that we are under the same federal government.
But it’s the same in America when educating yourself on the different countries and cultures throughout Europe, visiting or researching yourself is the only way to learn.

As an American I agree with all of their criticisms.

my one trip to the usa... to be honest the worst place to get the feeling of a place... Las Vegas lol.... (it was a free trip so i went)
things i loved... the scenery as i travelled across the country, its huge! so many different climates. you can see why they may not want to go abroad. If europe was one country we would feel the same...
things i hated... the lack of fresh normal food, weird banned ingredients in things, the tipping and being chased out of places because you didnt give enough... (was paying the bill not enough)... pensioners handing out strip joint cards... bail bond shops by the dozen.. (how much crime is there for that need?).. the guns on display. the sheer gluttony when eating or drinking, who needs to walk down the strip with an actual bucket on a chain round their neck full of sweet sticky soda?
in general Las Vegas is basically The Truman Show... mixed with guns and vice.... its awful.

It's sad. Being from California...I do see how the media has polarized our country. I know more people who don't support one side or the other. Social media also has really divided us.

I’ll tell you what Europeans really think about America. Please don’t let us fend off Putin alone.

The young Americans are choosing to travel elsewhere, especially to Japan and South Korea instead. As many Americans think they are hated by Europeans and would rather go elsewhere.

I have lived for decades in both the U.S. and Western Europe. In my opinion, people are people.. Radicalism is increasing worldwide..

Thank you Jon! I like these street interviews a lot, especially the one about dating.
Please interview more Norwegians if you can. Thank you again!

As someone from the US that has also lived in Europe I would say that Europe does have a higher quality of life.

That being said, there are divisions in Europe, and even the EU, that are pretty big. Hungary and Poland do not mesh so well with western European ideals. There is also a big rightward political shift on the continent right now.

At the end of the day, if I had been born in Europe I would have stayed in Europe. I was born in the US, so I will stay in the US because thats where my friends are.

Edit: I should also add that there are areas of Europe (Balkans) that do not live as well as other areas on the continent. If you visit this area and venture outside the capital cities you will see a lot of poverty. The US lives better than these areas.

They all have a point, there is less security in the US. USA however does a bit better job at giving opportunities to minorities than europe. I personally dislike the US system of life more. Exactly, how they described it, people there are arrogant, selfish, pushy and arent humble.

Makes me sad when I see these videos, when we travel to Europe, we try to be the best American we can be.

its interesting how they unanimously mention the political state of the country and not things like culture or what the people are like, which would be things that come to my mind if i was asked about european countries

The guy from Poland said they consider the USA as more stable now under Biden. Fast forward one year and look at what’s going on now. We’re involved in so many world conflicts. I feel I speak for a majority of Americans when I say that this administration is making us very nervous.

strange how many Europeans look down on the Americans until something happens and then the first words out of their mouths are... where are the Americans??

As an American I think these people have pretty reasonable opinions
