Stress is an unavoidable part of life. There are stressful events invading our lives every day. Whether it is a personal relationship challenges, a financial disaster, Covid or world events we are bombarded by stressful situations. It is therefore not at all surprising that in these moments of fight or flight response our brain encourages us to eat food that will strengthen our cardiovascular and muscular systems to respond.

Unfortunately, our brain does not differentiate between a healthy salad and a piece of chocolate cake - and no surprise here guess which one our body often chooses. In this video, I talk about the very complicated way that stress triggers a series of nutrition choices that often cause more harm in the long run than good.

This is a very practical video with lots of examples and suggestions!

How much stress you do have in your life? Do you keep 'stress food' and sugary snacks around the house?

I am probably the exception to the rule....my stress level is pretty low. I'm retired so no job stress anymore, I don't have parents any longer (both are deceased), a significant other (divorced) or children. I don't even have a pet. It's not that I don't like animals, I actually like them a lot. I live vicariously through my neighbors' dogs. I have no outstanding debts. My home is situated in a beautiful, quiet forest near the water which I find to be very soothing. I am truly blessed.

I live in the US and watch your videos often. Thank you so much for chatting about topics that older and single women deal with on a daily basis. I truly enjoy your uplifting, informative and positive attitude towards life. ☺

For many years I ate the standard American diet, processed foods, fast food, high sugar. We really didn't know any better, and thought it was all fine- we'd be fine. But as middle age hit and health issues started popping up, I took a much closer look at the foods I was eating. Today at 61, I eat 100% better than I ever have. I still have a sweet tooth, but I indulge it in a measured way knowing that most of my food intake is excellent. Stress is a huge factor in our health, alongside food, movement, water, and sleep. Managing your mind can help your body in so many ways. The younger people have a leg up on us as so much of this information is more commonly known in our world today. This is good. ;-)

Thank you for this vital reminder to take good care of our bodies. It’s a big responsibility, but it’s worth it. I have been on this health journey most of my life and am at the point of being more satisfied with my daily eating and exercising routine. Inch by inch. There were many factors to overcome. Emotional attachment, physical issues. Thanks again. The best to everyone ❤️

I have no major stress and eat chocolate every day, have for 40 years. In truth, semi-sweet and dark, but not the real dark. It’s my treat. I don’t overdo it. I enjoy it. I think we need to respect our cravings, eat according to our hunger and learn to trust ourselves. Sometimes I do crave salad and various vegetables. Kale is a my favorite! I think bodies crave balance. Every body is different though. I happen to be under weight and comfortable with that. Stress is the culprit, not chocolate. Once it’s eliminated it is easier to hear what our bodies need and follow a healthy lifestyle.

EXTREMELY stressed at 63...Moringa is very high in anti-stress nutrients. Helps keep me going in spite of it all.

Your presentations are very interesting and informative. They would be even better though, if when you present a "list" of something, you put in some slides with the written words on it to help highlight and summarize your points. This video is a good example of where that would help.

LOTS of issues at our age, Margaret. I try to eat right, exercise and take the proper supplements. I have my days when I "eat my feelings", but, not as often as I used to. I aim for just one day a week to eat dessert, or what I truly want. It usually works, except if I'm very stressed. I can also like to eat late at night before bed, but, I try to fight that, too. All the stressors in our life add to the challenge to keep fit and eat healthy. This is a great topic; yes, the "fight or flight" syndrome is very real during stressful times. Thanks for sharing this; take good care, and stay well!

Well Stress is my middle name lately. Work is understaffed and overwhelming. Boss is not a good guy. Retirement is a few years away. Dr says I need to learn to relax to make it to retirement. I am trying. Not sleeping well, hard to take any time off. will see
