Why did Les Stroud choose Todd Standing for Survivorman Bigfoot? - Mountain Beast Mysteries Ep. 1

In this first video of my Mountain Beast Mysteries Youtube series I explain why I believe Les Stroud chose a controversial figure such as Todd Standing for the early Survivorman Bigfoot episodes back in 2014. Now that Mr. Standing is back on the radar it'll be interesting to see what new content he releases.

Todd Standing started his career in the late 2000s attempting to make a thriller/horror film called Sylvanic, about a group of teenagers who are hunted and killed by Sasquatch.

That alone should make you quite skeptical of Todd Standing.

As an anthropologist I followed Les' trek into the wilderness with Todd Standing closely. He states in there that he understands the controversy surrounding Todd Standing & does an admirable job of separating himself from this while clearly stating that being with Standing is certainly not an endorsement of Standing.

It's what Reo speaks about a lot in that people who take the time to go and search the woods of America should not be bad mouthing and mocking each other and like you say ... work as a team because you'll are working towards a common goal. I think Todd Standing has damaged his reputation to the point that if he did genuinely find and film bigfoot he would not be believed, I think Les Stroud put thing's into perspectively going out with Todd Standing.

The funny thing about Sasquatch experts is that they eat their own. Yet they don’t have their own iron clad evidence. If a guy like Standing shows up with footage that’s compelling ... jealousy sets in because no one can pull together over this creature. The belief in anything is subject to criticism today.

Why wouldn't Les Stroud explore with Todd Standing? They both have integrity, curiousity, are resourceful & confident. Their egos don't have to compete because they are truly involved in "the discovery".

Todd's best video, is the one where the sasquatch runs up the cut slope. Its close to the Patterson video, imo. And what he shows repeatedly in his video clips of that, where it leaps up the steep slope like an olympic running, is really only about 1/5th of that whole clip. It runs left, and it slips and falls, and when it recovers it keeps going. When Todd goes up onto the slope, he is struggling. So unless LeBron James in a hair suit was running around in the woods, I doubt that video is fake.

Why does it matter? Is everyone so butt hurt that he chose Todd? He said he didn't trust him. What is wrong with everyone? You do your stuff. I do mine. Les does his. No ones business but our own. If you don't like it don't watch it. Simple

I'm glad you touched on the most obvious aspect of Todd's research - the fact that he goes out looking. For some reason direct personal observation has been sidelined in this field. Modern Bigfoot researchers have created a whole new sport of criticizing each other. Nowadays Bigfoot research is all about who you think is a hoaxer and who's legit. The most negative, aggressive, and uneducated people in the community have usurped control over the entire subject and control the dialogue. The comments on this video are a perfect example of this.

Meanwhile, those who actually go out and focus on Sasquatch get bullied and smeared.

The irony is that Sasquatch is absolutely not hard to find at all. I invite the owner of this channel to come down and I'll show you what I know. I think you'd be a fun guy to take up to some of these areas; I can see myself watching your videos down the road when I've had enough of this subject and move on to something else. I know you'll find spectacular evidence with the mindset and work ethic you have. Anyway, open invitation. You can come down for a week or so. We can camp, and I show some crazy stuff - stuff you'd be able to apply where you are

Being a journalist, my job is to gather as much information on a particular subject as possible, present it to the public and let them make up their own minds as to the validity of the subject in question. Now, if Todd Standing is a "hoaxer", then he's a damn good one, because he has convinced two of the preeminent individuals in this particular field of study, that being the late/great Dr.John Bindernagel and Dr.Jeff Meldrum. Both of whom have said on camera, that while in the field with Todd Standing, they have had their own encounters with Sasquatch. John Bindernagel said on camera, that he believes Todd Standing has filmed Sasquatch. I am not taking anyone's side in this issue, just reporting simple facts

It's too late. Todd has been so trashed that nothing will believed. Certainly not video/film no matter how authenticated. Less so tracks, hair, DNA. And Todd would never kill one just to get a body.

I agree with you about just about everything -- I grew up spending A LOT of time in the Nordegg / Shunda / Bighorn Dam / Lake Abraham area (my dad liked to go to the middle of nowhere, so we would take his trailbike & go in to creeks that no humans had ever been at before for fishing), and my family definitely had experiences, *many of them*. It's literally the first mountain in from the foothills, there is A TON of water there, fish, other wildlife, it IS a perfect area for them.
I thought that one of the thigs Standing put out was ridiculous... then I just realized last week when Utah Sasquatch (Nathan Reo) put out a video debunking the debunking & showing how photoshopped that "muppet" type of picture was (as in, it is NOT Todd's original, and it's not what Todd himself released)... but I absolutely felt that the other face shot he got was real AND the one where he was below a cliff looking up and something stood up, then moved away from the edge. There was another one of something walking up an embankment but only the legs showed up for a split second -- not enough to really say one way or another IMHO.
I'm curious to see what will happen with Todd this time around. I think that if the people out there really want to prove the existence of these things, they're going to HAVE TO band together. The reason the sasquatch field is such a laughig stock is the Rick Dyer & Tom Biscardi garbage, but if we just ignore them & really work on the other people that ARE spending A LOT of time in the wilderness (of which Nordegg has no shortage), and you're right, it's not as busy with tourists as Banff & Jasper, it's more the real camping people (who don't have huge motorhomes or trailers) and no huge tourbuses go through Nordegg like they do the Banff & Jasper parks.

If you take people with you it's harder to hide and be quiet and I think they are to find when you're alone..I don't have a problem with Todd and his research I think some people judge him unfairly. Having luck shouldn't make you suspicious. Todd doesn't take a crew he has a small day pack and just enough to get by so he's light and runs the whole, time covering a lot of ground where's the fault in that?

The skeptics complain photos are never clear. Someone presents clear photos. Then the skeptics complain the photos are too clear. It's easy to sit on a couch and cast dispersions. You should worry less about what jealous researchers think and be supportive of someone who is actually busting his a$$ to find evidence or actual proof.

I have been looking at Todds stuff and listening to what he has to say~ I think Todd is lagit and you just have alot of haters picking on this guy~ Everybody is so pissed off that the video and pictures of Sasquatch are blury and shaky and so on, but as soon as someone has clear good footage then they are immediately demonized and hated on~ So your dammed if you do and dammed if you dont~
