Warhammer Fantasy players: "First time?"

Remember: we are under no obligation to play by Games Workshop's corporate policies. Keep proxying, house-ruling, sticking to older editions, 3D-print, buy third-party, convert, borrow, lend, etc. etc. etc. We aren't just "consumers", we are HOBBYISTS.

Me and my group just keep playing our old stuff regardless. Sometimes that will be just playing an older editions rules, sometimes it's just as proxies.

The greatest trick GW ever pulled was convincing non-tourny players they had to buy newer editions of rules/army books.

Remember folks, once you own the models and the books the hobbie is yours, not GWs

12:48 They just squatted your whole army and you're going off to buy the new set? YOU are the reason they keep getting away with this stuff.

You don't have to care about "unoficial stuff" unless you are in a games workshop shop, or your local club/shop for some reason has that rule of only official minis. For the rest, as long as its a painted army, I would love to play with anyone.

Welcome to Hasbro and Black Rock being major shareholders of Games Workshop.

They are just forcing our hands at this point to get 2nd hand and 3D printed stuff

Games Workshop has successfully made me play other miniature games, so my friends who play Warmachine now have a comrade in arms for their nearly dead game. Best investment ever - the game rules are free online, loads of miniatures are available cheaply online, and the newest rules include some really nice new resin minis! Best of all, no one will be taking these away, and Warmachine has rules for all legacy miniatures (though their balance might be a bit off).

As a historical gamer I’ve always found the slavish devotion linking to a particular range of figures to a specific game rather strange, more so when the “official” figures are so expensive.

I watched your video on using proxy figures which seemed entirely sensible, indeed I said so in the comments. Yes by all means buy official characters etc. but rank and file buy cheaper substitutes if available.

Sadly it seems that Games Workshop is behaving like the public ally listed company it is, where profit comes before all else, and not a company that genuinely looks after its customers. The solution is simple - buy proxy models,

There are many ways to make "business sense". GW always always chooses the super greedy one. Unless mandated from outside license holder, there was no reason to nerf any figures. Most likely most new players would go for the new stuff that is available, but there is no need to punish old players with wast armies or people up for a big conversion challenge. As a company you could just have announced the models would no longer be in production. Its the perfect way to push the older players out, that should be the ones welcoming the new. But business never thinks like that, just we can sell more new stuff.

Fortunately for you, you can probably use those miniatures in OPR Age of Fantasy.

If miniatures aren’t good for the life of the game then they are a phenomenally bad time and money investment. The deal was always “we know it’s a big investment but you can enjoy these models for as long as you play the game”.

That implicit promise is broken now.

I'm a old guy, and after marriage and 4 kids I am back to gaming after almost 25 years break. I only proxy figs or play miniatures agnostic games. My history is I played the original single book hard copies of fantasy and 40k. I went a little past those but rejected from the GW economy. Saying that, I truly feel you man.

My Deathwatch, Stormcast, and entire WH Underworlds collection... 'Snap' Gone. If I hadn't already moved to better rulesets for my minis (Warsurge, OPR) and printing because of the crap rules and continually rising costs, I would be unbelievably pissed off. As it stands, my break to wait for better rules, is now a permanent "walk away". Whatever modern GW is, it can get F'ed.

This shit definitely isn't new.
'What? You spent $1000 dollars on minis just for us to invent the Primaris and make everything you've bought pointless JUST so you have to buy ANOTHER army????'

It’s definitely transparency that left us ticked off, they said one thing is leaving but then something else in the same boat is staying ? Doesn’t make sense . Then comes the stock issue because everyone buying the minis you can’t get them within the a day of the article, they should come out that all those models will be on made to order for at least a year .

Found the dundland army video was great and be exactly what I’ll be doing to fill up the ranks with the new box .

I only decided to jump into Middle Earth this month, mainly because I want to paint the minis, but I've discovered just how beloved the rules of the game are. After playing 40k since '87 I find it now to be a game I don't enjoy, so I'm massively keen to get rolling with the new starter set soon. It's a shame about the removals, but I would say to keep playing your minis. Legacy isn't a problem if you're not doing official GW tournaments, but I do get that it saps the joy of collecting sometimes. Anyway, more Middle Earth content from you is always welcome, keep painting buddy.

This is why I don't care about the games they make, I play OPR. It's easier, more fun, you can non-agnostic miniatures, and most importantly.... you don't get rules and points changes every-fucking-week.
