I am not a mechanic but the easier way is just fill the hull with a little water and look for the drips... Solved many leaks this way.

Great videos brother.
God bless you. You are a blessing for the DIY boating community.
I personally wouldn't be able to afford a boat like mine without videos like yours.

I had a major leak and it was hilarious. My raw water wash down hose came loose and it was pumping right into the hull. Oh man was that a fun day. I kept wondering why the bilge pump kept going off.

Good stuff! If you can't find your leak sprinkle fine sawdust in the water and watch where it enters or clings to the hull. It will even expand there and slow the leak temporarily. Time your bilge pump and know what is normal. Hang one foot off the bunk just in case. 🛥 I spend the first night on board or keeping a close eye on things. We even towed our wood boats to the slip and let them soak before starting the engines the next day.⛵

I put a little automatic bilge pump in my bracket. I gave up looking for the leak. I also watched your motor mounting height several times and decided to raise my motor one hole. Between that and keeping my bracket empty, the boat runs better!

The amount of water I saw getting in I wouldn't think it would effect the ride the boat? I could see if was 10+ gallons but the belge wouldn't let that much build up I'd hope.

Hey awesome detective work! I wouldn't have guessed that the gun whale could have been a suspect except that I have a boat in at the moment with the same problem. He bashed into a solid marker and the impact popped the port side deck from the hull.... All hidden under the rubrail. I found the damage when I was removing the motor to install a hydraulic Jacking plate, once the motor was off the gap was more than visible, traced it and found the damage. Thanks again

I had an older Seacraft that leaked between the livewell (which was part of the inner liner) and the hull. The through hull castle nut was installed in the live well. The boat would only leak when under way. I only found out about this design flaw from another Seacraft owner. When under way the inner liner would move and the water would enter the bilge, you could fill up the bilge with a hose at the house and never find where all the water was coming from!

Fun Fact: If your boat has a water-maker on board, make damn sure it's off and fresh water isn't flowing out of the overfill port. I, uh, saw it on

I don't know who Keith was, but I hope he did good work on his last job at Shelter Bay on 3/11/2020.

Nice video! I had a 2001 21' Sea Pro W/A and my live well did the same thing. It turned out every time I turned on the pump it was pushing in more volume of water than the drain could discharge. To solve that I half way closed the valve and never had a problem again. Best Regards, Jay

Happened to me on my Wellcraft once. Unscrewed the rub rail, separated the top cap with a screwdriver, caulked the gap (where there was one), and put the rub rail back on. Problem solved. Way easier with a helper.

Nice troubleshooting! I replaced all plastic through hulls for deck drain and live well drains back in July. I don’t want mine to sink!

I just bought an older 88 ranger v393 bass boat. I get about a quart of water (I need to measure next time) after about 4 hours of fishing. I have checked the bottom of the boat on the trailer and patched any little nicks even if they didn't punch the fiberglsss. Used marine JB weld. Eventually I planned on redoing the live well system because even tho the cables work, the valves on the outside are functional, the inside is not because they fill the live wells were they are on fill or empty setting. I have ran the bilge on and off during use and nothing has come out even when I get the bow up at its highest point just before plane and nothing. But when I pull the plug at the end, there's a bunch of water, yes the bilge works 😊 next thing like you said, I need to take my extra battery out and the bilge cover plate and stick the boat in the water and see if the water is coming in from those live well fittings or inlet. I also filled the boat almost to the bottom of the batteries with water topside while in the trailer and leaned it up then down w the winch and didn't see any water drips. If it's not around the fittings I might have to take it to a local spring and snorkel under it and crawl around the bottom of the boat like spider man. I also noticed a heavy gasoline smell from the hull when I opened it up, so next weekend I have to see where I have a leak... I'm a noobie to all of this, so I guess it's true, boats are a money pit. I heard it said best: "man you must be rich." I was before I bought a boat! "So why don't you sell the boat and be rich again" because then I would be miserable
