Love: SUVs are too preposterous, made big and made rich. The Suzuki Jimny is a car I've always loved growing up because they're designed to being an honest, capable car that's the furthest from being pretentious. Panda 4x4 and 2CV too.

Really great Review of the new Jimny - loved the driving part, Thomas's driving, and his excellent commentary. "Thomas's G-Metre!" - his suitcase. Fun car.   Shame the original Land Rover and Defender never got this sort of Jimny upgrading, and in-built 'Japanese reliability', but instead has just faded away, and has lost its way, soon to be forgotten...  Many thanks for all your work Thomas.

Good review! Again, I am homesick for the time that I owned a Suzuki: for the engine that revved willingly if not in a buzzing sort of way. I miss how it was a cinch to park in a Smart Car sized space - and my biceps and shoulders got a bonus of getting more muscular from the non-power steering. The fuel economy around town was great and the view out was SUV-like at a time when most people still drove cars, making me feel taller than most. One thing I didn’t miss was the wind-roar of the soft top flapping in the wind; and the bouncy ride that left my rear-back numb!

This car is absolutely perfect for Hawaii. Low fuel consumption, off-road capability, affordable, rugged and small. Also looks the part!

My friend had the 1978 model. 2 stroke 2 cylinder. 1000CC. He used to drive sales trips in it of 1200 miles return! It was unbelievable offroad and on huge sand hills. No wonder it is still popular! Thanks Thomas.

Great realistic and frank review. By the way, the automatic gearbox comes with an overdrive button in Japan.

Here in Japan, the Jimny has a 658cc 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. The 1.5L version (like you tested) is called the Jimny Sierra and there's a one-year waiting list.

The dealer told me that "Kinetic Yellow" (which was your test car) is the least popular colour.
