everything makes sense to me, except the underlying idea of proof by induction. i dont get why proving the case for n=1 then assuming it works for n = k and then proving it works for n = k+1, is a proof. Is there a simple angle that i need to look at this from to understand why it works or have you any recommendations for good resources i can use to learn more about this type of proof? everything i find online is about proof by induction not being proper proof, is there a special name for this method?
