Contractor Lead Generation: How I Get Customers for My Construction Business

I can help you get more leads:

If you watch my stuff, you know that I'm not a huge fan of lead reselling middleman companies like HomeAdvisor and Angie's List. In my opinion they only make money because they monopolize the front page of Google. My company's mission is to get enough contractors on the front page of Google that these lead reselling middleman companies go away.

Watch this video a couple times if you need to. Understanding this stuff is huge for businesses, especially those that are spending tons of money buying leads!

Totally agree with you, Chuck! Why buy leads if you can build your own right? It might take some manual work, but the important is that you're building quality over quantity. Google is a great platform to find prospects. You can search for companies and then look for the decision-makers and offer them services. In case Google doesn't provide their info, there are third-party search tools to find their contact information.

brother, im an up and coming IT / security camera company in a big city in texas. I do access control, cameras, IT, servers, WIFI, printers, data wiring, phone systems (analog and voip), any connected devices, speakers (in wall, all the others) A/V, Tv mounting, custom setups, (i can do residential too) But im kind of comprehensive. But your video inspired me, i need my crappy website I built revamped and to look cool on a phone, and how much it would cost to get my name up there, if even for a little while. were trying to break away and become more independant, and so far the only solutions i could cook up were of course word of mouth (which is good because we do good work, thus good reputation) but its not enough i see in the long run to keep us going forever. I value that you made this video because it inspired me to pull this trigger ...and hopefully take my little business....somewhere better.

dont judge me for zero punctuation or grammer on youtube either ;)

The silicon valley middle-men who do nothing except get in between the contractor and the customer, raising prices for actual working Americans. Glad you're raising awareness about this, one day we'll have to boycott Angi, Home Advisor, etc. if we want prices to come back down.

I am an insulation contractor who specializes in cellulose insulation. I have over 2000 jobs under my belt. Working for a pest control company, but only one job under my belt for myself. I'm about to go door to door because more people need insulation, then they realize.

Great video, something I've expressed to my company and helped them avoid. There are a lot of B2B companies out there who feed on people's urge to grow/make their business succeed.

thanks So much!! Great info!! been in Bus over 30yrs and finding out when trying to be online it's all 100% true what your saying and appreciate your re affirmation of what we are being stricken right now.. also we experienced Yelp using AI robots and giving us wrong leads and all with the same job type across the country instead of in our area only..All fake but charged us a lot of money for each lead.

This was a gem of a video man thank you. I’m trying to get my father out of the year 2002 and I think this might help him. I was in the middle of revamping his company’s branding and marketing anyway but I hadn’t gone into the rabbit hole that is those business review sites. Didnt know they sell peoples contact info. No different to big tech companies selling user data to advertising companies

Thanks for those tips. I can speak to the truth of what you said personally as I have implemented all of your tips in my own business. I started my woodworking business in 2016 and started with lead sites like thumbtack and Porch only. They were great back at that time for the first couple of years that I used them until I created my own website and built up my Google reviews . Like you said, that's the best thing you can do as a business owner. Supplementing with lead sites is good for a time to get you off the ground, etc, but build up your business in other ways that will sustain you. Also, one thing that's helped me a lot is getting on vendor lists in certain neighborhoods, so when homeowners want recommendations, they see you on that list.

I have lots of obstacles up right now and can really benefit from this. I've been paying for almost a year for SEO and they don't help at all... lieing about the first page. I need to fix my work truck and keep my guys working but it hard when I give so much to a partner or pay so much for crappy leads oh I'm just looking or so and so will do it for $50 hr with 3 guys!!!

When I drive around I am always looking for new buildings going up. If there is a sign outside with the name of the construction company I call and set up a meeting. If there is no sign I throw on my hardhat and walk on the job and find out who is in charge of it. Granted that is more pointed to subs finding work vs GCs that are selected by customers to do a full build out. I work with a handful of GCs that will only use my company for fire protection because our quality is top notch and we have never held up a job or failed a CO. This video is great info for GCs. If I were a GC I would become friends with a few architects because you will know projects that will be going to bid before they even get there.
