Teams - How to Manage Files and Folders in a Channel

Microsoft Teams Channels is a great way to communicate and collaborate. I love group chat also, but one HUGE advantage a Team has over a group chat is the ability to manage files and folders. With a group chat, you can't create folders. We will be in a Channel and examine how to create folders and files and move folders and files. We will also show how to move folders or files from one Channel to another Channel. Remember, files in a chat and group chat are stored in OneDrive, and files and folders in a Team are stored in SharePoint.

Chapters:
0:00 Intro
0:24 Chat vs. Teams Channel file location
0:50 Folder and Files in a Channel
1:13 Moving Files and Folders
2:00 Move from one Channel to another Channel
3:14 Closing Remarks

Trying to teach me tech tips is like trying to teach a cat to iron but this was so easy and clear! Thanks so much!

Great but what if you want to copy a folder from one channel to another channel? Got a caller who copied from one channel to another new channel (shows up in SharePoint but not in files or folders?

Just to be clear we cannot move folders up or down?

My org seems to create channels just to organize files. They aren't leveraging any other functionality inside the channel. Instead, they make ad hoc chats everywhere!

Good video. Is there any way to see a folder tree hierarchy in teams or share point. Without it, you really need to already know the folder structure or go hunting by opening and closing a bunch of folders.

Hi, I have a Teams set up with a General channel (am I using that term right?) and multiple documents listed under the Files tab for that Channel.

The documents are split up under two headings:

> In Channels
> In Site Library

There is only one doc in the In Channels section and the rest are under In Site Library.

When anyone clicks the File tab it defaults to this single document under the General folder within the In Channels section.

You then have to click Documents for it today display the full list of folders/docs available.

I want to be able to see the whole list of folders/docs available. How am I best achieving this please?

Hope that made sense.

However, when the Files tab is selected, it defaults to

Hi.
Can I expand and collapse folders under “Files” within Channels?
I want to see a “map” or “tree” showing the “hierarchy” of folders.

I like to arrange my folder by date, yyyy-mm-dd. Teams will make October come before February. How can I have my folders listed in numerical order?

Files that are uploaded as attachments to to a Teams Channel Conversation (Post) get dropped in the root Sharepoint folder for that Channel. This can quickly clutter the root folder for larger teams. Do you have a recommended solution for this?
