Thank you for this talk. My hubby and I did his bucket list by driving across country to drive through the Redwood tree. We are planning to make another road trip. Great relationship builder.

Looking for inspirational talks for seniors and found this. I do not personally find aging to be a superpower but its nice to hear someone who does. Due to an injury l can’t walk much now, but still can hobble around the house and do house cleaning and wk in the yard a little. Since my husband passed almost 5 yrs ago, there’s no real joy in doing anything except keeping my grandkids ever so often, which wears me out and takes two days to recover afterwards, but its worth it. I still sing some but don’t enjoy it. I used to write songs and started writing some kids books but simply lost interest in all of it. I do love my cats and dogs. Stopped going to church but still fellowship with a few close Christian friends and have bible discussions and prayer with them. After all this time, thought l wd be ok without Jim, but lm not. Grief classes made me feel way worse. My greatest concern at this point is living too long! My mom is almost 90 and in the nursing home with severe dementia for the past 7 years. My sister and l go see her but she has no idea who we are and sometimes never wakes up when we’re there, nevertheless we will continue to go.

Im grateful for peace of mind most of the time, good food, and a nice house and pickup. Im glad l can still drive and recently took a part time job doing medical records at home as l needed a schedule and a reason to get out of bed in the mornings. I enjoy the birds in my yard, especially the hummingbirds. There’s always something to be thankful for but truly enjoying life is just not in the wheelhouse anymore. Tried the whole “fake it till you make it” thing for over 3 yrs, did exercising programs, swimming, forced socialization, etc., but absolutely nothing helped to overcome the state of anhedonia. Ive stopped talking about it to anyone except expressing it at times on the internet but from what l can tell, what l am experiencing is rampant amongst seniors. Actually, all age groups are affected but its probably more so with the aging. One thing lve discovered is that enjoyment is not necessary to function, but one must continue to function effectively as long as possible because that is necessary.

Excellent insightful empowering message thank-you! It is very interesting to think about all the lifestyle habits of Japanese people with 10, 000's over 100 in excellent health emotionally to physically. They love spending time in nature/called forest energy and walk on average 6120 steps per day outside in green spaces/trees! Traditional Japanese diet is full of vegetables and little meat or processed food, they follow Shintoism/Zen Buddhism believe in cultivating inner peace, continual growth via kaizen philosophy meaning new learning and growth every day, projection based on data indicates 130 is just on the horizon in Japan. A very spiritual culture in business class learnt they incorporate a spiritual perspective in all their business operations ie. at Kyocera the leading electronics company founder Kazuo Inamori was also a Buddhist Priest/he was also a CEO of Japanese Airlines, he lived a very minimalistic lifestyle wrote lots of books sharing his wisdom.

Ageism is right on top with racism. It’s darn shame how some young people treat their elders. Funny thing about life the way you treat people you too will experience it and even worse.
