I have acquired alexithymia from a TBI so the body sensations don't get translated into an understanding that an emotion is body sensation overlaid with thoughts. It's "body sensation" or "thoughts."

One trick I have found helps is that if I am having a LOT of thoughts about something, ruminating on it, fixating, talking about it, examining it, etc. mentally, I use the FREQUENCY and FOCUS aspect of the thoughts occurring to realize "an emotion must be triggering this" and then deliberately trying to stop and figure out what I physically feel.

I don't ever really end up marrying the two well in my mind, but I can at least get an understanding of what the emotion is and what triggered it (usually not what it means though). That is a good starting point.

I tried body scanning before and I simply didn’t feel sensations in my body. I was baffled and even thought the activity was ridiculous until I discovered I have avoidant tendencies
