The Sonos Sub Mini is a less expensive alternative to the full-size Sonos Sub. Despite the small size, can it still pack enough punch to justify over $400? Let's talk about how this sub could potentially take your home movie setup to another level.

I'm using the sub mini currently pared with a sonos beam and it's adding a nice layer of warm base to the sound. I'm usually pretty picki in sound an used to bigger and more powerful speakers, but there's something about the sonos speakers that's just sounding so good. They are perfect for listening to music in low or medium levels and then you don't have the need to turn up the volume they blend in nicely. Without the sub mini the beam wouldn't be strong enough for me. With the base I wish sonos would enable to use stereo speakers for TV to enhance the separation and punch from the front. 2 play one have more mids and volume than a beam. I would prefer the sub mini over surround speakers, because you're not always watching movies where the surround effects are more important than adding a hole new dimension of depth to the sound of films and music. We where using the sub mini and 2 play ones and a beam for a party and managed to fill a 60m^2 room with sound. I was surprised by the sub, the limiting factor where the loudness of the speakers. That's where real stereo speaker towers come into place.

Bought HomePods and put in the living room. Yeah that didn’t last long. I got the Sonos Arc with the Era 100 with stands. Boy I’m blown away how good they sound. I want the Sub mini now to complete the system. HomePods are in bedroom with my tv and apple tv They sound nice in there but no way were they going to make it in the main room.
Can’t wait to get the sub mini and complete the system

I think you might have forgotten to mention how it pairs up with the Sonos Beam

I have a sonos arc soundbar in an open plan set up. My sofa is basically in the middle of the room, which is sizeable and heads off to the dining area and kitchen area behind. I have built the TV in a media wall so putting a sub near there would spoil the aesthetics of the set up. Neither do I want to place a large sub behind the sofa as this will look out of place from the rear. I have 2 round matching coffee tables at either end of the sofa. I was considering placing a mini sub beneath each table, as it would balance the view and the sound around the sofa and room. Would 2 of these work well together in a system

Great stuff, Eric. I haven't jumped into the Sonos arena yet, but I think I'm about to tip my toe into it. This was great info!

Seems like the Sonos Ray Sound bar and sub mini would make a great computer speaker setup assuming your computer supports optical audio…

What’s the benefit of hard wiring the Ethernet cords to you system rather than wifi?

Hey there! My couch is right up against the back wall- is it still worth it to get rear surrounds that would basically be above where we’re sitting? Would look somewhat similar to what you’ve got going on in your setup.

Glad you decided to continue making videos!

Hey Eric, I understand that this Sonos Mini Sub supports Airplay2... So couldn't we just add that as an additional speaker to my AppleTV/Dual Homepod Pro set up to get a bit more bass?

I am looking at buying my first home theatre system.

I’m thinking of either getting an Apple TV 4K with dual HomePod 2s, or a Sonos Beam 2, with the option to add rear speakers and the sub mini later.

So I’d love to see you make a video that compares the Apple and Sonos home theatre options.

I like the look and the minimal footprint of the Apple system, but I’m thinking that the full Sonos system will be much better for home theatre / music listening.

I went to Best Buy and got the Sonos Sub Mini on the first day to pair with my Beam Second Generation and two old Sonos Play 1 in the rear. Are you excited for Apple Musical Classical?

The sonos sub, both normal and mini is the weakest link of the surround setup, easily. I had SVS sb1000pro before I went surround sound and that thing beats the crap out of sub gen3. Now I know sonos is convenient and that’s why people buy it including me. But the sub just doesn’t have the tightness or depth that a good sub should offer. I would be willing to pay $1500 if Sonos came out with a sub like Kef kc62 rather than fancy looking things that can be vested by $200-300 HTIB subs. Honestly, everything else Sonos makes is amazing but the sub is just kinda disappointing, especially for music.

the only problem is we cant pair 2 of them or even with SUB 3 .. wish Sonos changes that

Is it possible to connect this sub to like a KEF speaker or is it only compatible with other Sonos speakers?

Having the same signal coming out of two separate homepod speakers is not what you call a stereo sound! That's basically a mono sound coming out of two separate speakers. (Big difference)

I've had several soundbars and surround sound package but it was only when I purchased a budget AVR and a pair of budget speakers that I realised what I was missing, (stereo imaging, thumping bass, fully enveloping soundstage imaging etc) besides going down this route one can always add to it overtime... surround speakers, subwoofers one can even get height speakers and have the full non virtual Dolby Atmos experience. Nowadays AVRs has so simple to setup they even walk you through the process.

Remember movies are made up of 50% visuals and 50% audio and there are occasions when the audio out does the visuals.
