In this video, Jeremy Cioara covers Amazon Web Services EC2 key pairs. He’ll discuss Public/Private Key Cryptography, how key pairs are used in Windows and Linux, and then walk you through what you need to do if you lose your key.

In this video, you’ll learn the purpose of key pairs, how they work, and the theory behind them. You’ll get an overview of public/private key cryptography and the difference between them. Jeremy will walk you through the steps you need to create and download AWS EC2 key pairs, then talk about how they’re used in Window instances and how this differs from how key pairs are used in Linux instances. One of the legitimate concerns people have is what happens if they lose their keys, and this video will show you what to do if this happens to you.

Private key and public key are opposite to each other to know the public key you must know the private key and vice versa and private key is stored in .pem file

Given sufficient amount of time, private key can be derived from public key. It would take years however.

Great job just way to fast... trying to grasp what your talking about as you are speaking..Trying to keep up. So you don't mention what you do if you loose your keys on a linux instance...
