MicroNugget: How to Move Applications to AWS

In this video, Jeremy Cioara covers how to move your applications to Amazon Web Services. He’ll discuss which applications you should move and how to decide when to do it as you build a cloud strategy. You’ll also gain an appreciation for how to perform a culture check and cost analysis before you make any decisions.

AWS is incredibly powerful, and the more that you explore, the more that you discover. One of the first things to remember about moving applications to the cloud is that it doesn’t have to be an “all or nothing” situation: you can selectively decide what you move and what you keep locally.

You’ll want to begin by building a cloud strategy and identify the applications you want to move. The ones that will go first are those that make the most sense, such as the “no-brainer” applications like image libraries.

Later on, you’ll reach the phased migration applications. These are the apps that might be bigger or require more thought. At this point, though, you’ll have already laid most of the groundwork for them, so the transfer will be much easier.
