I never leave mom alone. I've got to have her a supervisor so I can shower and I sleep with one eye open 24/7

I think I would add that a sign would be when u r spending more time at their house than ur own, that they ask u to move in w them than the other way around, more time on the phone with them over the course of the day, or ur answering machine is blowing up with their daily, hourly, messages. And definitely if the police bring them home bc they got lost out driving or lost out walking!!!! All of that happened to me, I waited way too long to get my mom moved in with me.

My step dad was diagnosed with malignant vascular dementia after he had a episode at home, which sent him first to the ER, then Behavioral Health where the diagnosis was made. He spent 2 weeks there and then transferred to a Skilled Nursing Facility. After only a week they did a test, and he did so well on the test that they said he could go home and live on his own. They will work with his primary heath care provider to get a doctor recommendation to DMV that he should not drive…He will be going home tomorrow…They said he would have in home health services for awhile…And his neighbors will check on home….I hope that the health care workers will see if him living at home alone is okay or not…I am worried…He wants to be in charge, and make his own decisions…Not sure how this is going to play out..Looking for advice…and insights

Made friends with a neighbor 3 yrs ago. Now he's accusing me of having 'Lost time'---when I've got my texts & his responses to prove what we talked about or went shopping together---How do you counter This?? It's scary!!

That time came for us when my grandma got to the point that she didn’t realize she was in her home anymore that’s when we realized she couldn’t be alone anymore.

Yeah…it’s a hard call, especially since the PWD is usually slipping between the early stage of ‘mild cognitive impairment’ and the inevitable ‘serious debilitation’ - they may even have a great deal of cognitive capacity, but depending on their own situation they simply cannot be alone. Discussing these issues in a loving and reassuring manner at the earliest possible time - even before diagnosis of suspected mci, while the person who might be developing dementia still has the ability to make decisions - having these ‘talks’ in a general way is an important and valuable part of life. One never plans on having dementia, but it can and does happen to many people, especially in these days of advanced medical care. Knowing your loved ones’ desires ind ideals is a road to long term happiness.

Hope to die way before this. It is scary to have your brain on tilt.

Not true. Many people die before they need 24 hour care.
