Confronting Domestic Violence Abusers Face-To-Face | VICE on HBO (Bonus)

Jackie Freeman is a survivor of domestic violence.

She’s working to confront perpetrators face-to-face with Resolve To Stop The Violence, the first program in the country to work with incarcerated men to confront their history of domestic abuse.

Grew up in a violent home where we’ve had the cops come over a few times; I’m sorry, but domestic violence should never be decriminalized. The impact that it has on its victims is too grand.

Violence is violence. If you beat someone and mentally submit them, man or woman, you need serious help.

The guy that abused me (hit and raped) had no history of family abuse and was not a marginalized person socially and had no history of any sort of abusive past, he had a lovely childhood and a bright future. Sometimes people are just bad through and through. Hopefully these programs will help those who genuinely don't want to be that person anymore and want help. Good luck and I hope that everyone finds peace.

Decriminalize domestic violence? Is she out of her mind?!? Sh*t escalates to homicide!! That lady should be locked up for stupidity!! No man OR woman should hit eachother, period! Anyone suffering in a domestic violent situation should seek help and GET OUT! I am lucky I’m alive!

Sometimes it's not always the physical that hurts but also the mental abuse.

talking isn’t enough. sometimes prison isn’t enough. my grandmother was killed by her 2nd abusive partner. back in the 80’s, domestic violence wasn’t taken seriously. but i wish he would have been stopped.

The dumbest thing you can do is hit a woman repeatedly then tell her she's crazy for turning you in.

Blaming unemployment or certain other aspects that cause domestic abuse is really disgusting

Getting these abusers prosecuted and into prison is often the only thing that makes it possible to escape them. Prison sentences for DV save lives. It must always be a crime and perps need to be removed from society.
