"The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, " by Thomas Kuhn. He was a historian who noticed that in the history of science there are always periods of scientific paradigms (like when all of the scientific world based its physics on Newtonian physics) before it eventually there comes a Paradigm Shift. At that point a discovery is made that completely undermines the assumptions of the scientific world. Considering that the whole history of science is like this, it is better to remain humble and open to new possibilities, instead of thinking that the current level of our scientific understanding is anything special.
