Lewis Millett, a true warrior from Mechanic Falls, Maine, went AWOL to fight Nazis with the Canadian Army before returning to lead legendary charges across North Africa and Korea. Known for his fearless bayonet assaults, he earned the Medal of Honor, pioneered air assault tactics, and even joined the CIA in Vietnam.

Lewis Millett died of congestive heart failure on November 14, 2009, one month shy of his 89th birthday. He had retired from service in 1973 with the rank of Colonel.

The Fat Electrician did an EXCELLENT video on this guy.
His best line i think was to describe Millet's mustache as a "womb broom."

I had the pleasure of meeting Colonel Millett in 2003 at the Ontario California airport. He was on his way to Korea, at the expense of the South Korean government, which was hosting all the surviving Medal of Honor winners from the Korean war. He had his medal of honor with him for this trip. Ask him if he ever had a chance to meet Audie Murphy, and his eyes lit up and he said “yes, once!”

Lewis Millett spoke to my battalion (the unit he earned his MOH with) at our deployment ceremony in 2004. He was our honorary regimental commander until his death in 2009. At the time we had a Korean American battalion commander. Lewis gave a very motivating speech before ending with a Lewis Millett joke that stunned us. He asked while standing next to our BC, “how do you turn a Korean’s eyes round?” Our whole battalion’s mouths dropped before he finished with, “YOU STAB THEM WITH YOUR BAYONET!!!” Nobody made a sound 😂 That was Lewis though. He was f***ing nuts. My grandfather has stories about him too. My grandfather worked with him at the 101st’s old Recondo school back before the Vietnam War started. Despite his many character flaws, the man was respected and loved by all. He always kept his signature mustache until the day he died. That was a sad day for us Wolfhounds. Nec Aspera Terrent!

Oh and a little known bit about his Korean War bayonet charges, he was actually ordered to stop doing them. It was his go to when times got crazy, and the Army hated it despite giving him medals for it. 😂

There's a plaque on Hill 180 commemorating Lewis and his bayonet charge. It actually says it was the last bayonet charge in US military history. Hill 180 is part of Osan Air Base.

They forgot to mention the other bronze star he earned. He blew his meniscus due to his low hanging danglers.

Bayonet's the enemy commander and leaves a note. Thank you for your service! That is straight out of a comic book or movie, bad ass.

What always amazes me - that's somebody's grandpa

Mine were WW2, USAF in Europe and USMC in the Pacific. Wish they didn't pass when I was so young, would have loved to hear their stories.
