You'll NEVER Want to Be Smart Again | SCHOPENHAUER's Secret

Arthur Schopenhauer, a notable 19th-century philosopher, regarded playing the fool as more than mere folly; he saw it as a nuanced critique of human absurdities and a strategic way to navigate life's complexities. Schopenhauer believed that openly displaying intellectual superiority could provoke envy and retaliation, suggesting that sometimes it's advantageous to be underestimated. This approach, he argued, could protect one from the negative repercussions of others' jealousy and enhance personal well-being.

In this video we'll delve into Schopenhauer's observations on human nature, particularly our obsession with others' opinions and the social pressures to appear intelligent. It connects these ideas to a personal anecdote from Schopenhauer's youth, where his mother's critical letter reflects early challenges related to his intellectual demeanor. This background enriches our understanding of his later philosophical reflections on the value of playing the fool, highlighting the social benefits of sometimes hiding one's true capabilities to maintain harmony and avoid conflict.

Never outshine the master. Fired twice because of envy. Never underestimate the envy.

Sometimes, you have to play the fool to fool the fool that thinks they're fooling you

In my experience, no one has a problem with you if you act smart AND agreeable. It’s when you start saying stuff they aren’t ready to hear, that’s when they get offended. Still, some people are never ready and there are truths that must be told…

It’s just about finding common ground with people. You don’t have to pretend to be stupid, just don’t flex on people by talking about things you know they won’t understand. Read the room and dial yourself down to a level that’s accessible to them.

There's a fine line, if you're funny and too self deprecating sometimes a certain type of person will just take it as a green light to rip the p*ss out of you in front of others.

I just turned 60 and I give this advice to the youngsters. If you got a job, be modest towards your colleagues from day one, even if you know better. I have changed my job 6 times and kept a low profile. Coworkers had the impression that I was dumb, but were surprised when I showed my knowledge a year or two later. I gave them the impression that I learned a lot from them. It worked every time. They once begged me to return to a job I left 7 years earlier which I refused. I already had a better offer

I pretend ignorance if I'm dealing with a know-it-all or an actual expert.
When an expert explains the topic, you might learn additional information.
A know-it-all will reveal what they don't understand.
Either way you now have additional information, I suppose.

Feigning ignorance can also unmask
the true intentions of the cruelest ones.

Those who wish to manipulate the foolish.

I've discovered that over the years.

And this technique served me well.

If envious people see you are smarter than them they will start to device subtle verbal and non verbal tactics to pull you down. Just like playing dumb is a strategy, playing non-envious is also a strategy which they have inorder to not perceived as one such. So we do not know who is envious one and who is not. They hide.

"To play the fool is the last resort to cover up the defects of others, " perfectly put. No one is perfect, if your goal is to be a friend, lover, etc., then easing any tension should be your goal, not making it more pronounced

I find it rewarding to engage in conversation with complete strangers. I find that I have the ability to to have a meaningful conversation without judging them or them judging me.

I don't pretend to be st00pid but I often hide how much I'm not when interacting with others. It makes it much easier to mingle with the common folks and not attract unwanted attentions and backlashes. The truth is, most people aren't that bright and they feel unconfortable when someone among them seems a bit less ordinary. They immediately start grabbing pitchforks.

To sum it up: showing intelligence can be perceived as being annoying or arrogant.
