Smokin' Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali 1 Billed as The Fight of the Century.

Joe Frazier looks to defend his heavyweight title against the man who never lost it in the ring Muhammad Ali to decide who is the true champion. This was Ali's third fight in his comeback after his 3 year ban from boxing. He defeated Jerry Quarry and Oscar Bonavena by stoppage in his previous 2 bouts who were top ranked contender who also both lost to Frazier. This was billed and proved to be one of the greatest fights of all time.

The fight was put together using 2 different broadcasts to keep the action as best quality as possible with no inturruptions. Audio has been synced to the footage as best as possible. Round 10 has the only issue where the fight has to be switched to lower quality broadcast for around 2 minutes as they did not display the full round 10 in my version.

The quality was made possible by ESPN's 50th anniversary Fight of the Century documentation. Also thanks to Samir Belhamra for his colorization of the iconic image I have used as my thumbnail.

I'm currently feeling a lot of gratitude for being able to watch two greats, who's legacy and will defined each other, throw hands. Especially the care given to upscaling the quality and resolution of this footage. It brings more things into a clearer light, Ali's ability to absorb and react, Frazier's perpetual and unreadable motion. Beautiful. Thank you.

I Don’t Know Why People Refer To This Fight As Ali vs Frazier. This Fight Should Always Be Titled Frazier vs Ali Because Frazier Was The Defending Champion And That’s How This Fight Was Billed!!!

Dundee later said that it was a mistake to send Ali against Frazier after just six months of his comeback and only two fights. He said they should have waited a year and had four fights. Frazier really came on in this fight after round 3. How Ali stayed up in that 11th round is amazing.

Ali not moving around the ring like he did when he was younger, probably trying to conserve energy for a very possible long fight. If he had trained like he did against Liston in their first fight he probably would have won. He also lost a couple of rounds by laying on the ropes and letting Frazier go to town at will. Ali couldn't figure out Frazier's left hook in this fight and paid the price dearly. That said, Frazier's face at the end looked like it had been through a meat grinder. But overall magnificent fight by Frazier, Ali just slightly less so

Did anyone catch that? Arthur Mercante, the referee, was also one of the three judges? How?

It was a tough fight to score but the knockdown in the last round settled my scoring beyond doubt, Joe deserved to win, Ali hit him with everything early but couldn't stop him. It just makes you think about how much power Foreman had to demolish Joe so quickly later on.

How did Ali stay standing with 1:35 left in the fight when Frazier hit him with that out-of-this-world thunderous right hand? There aren't many boxers in history that could have stayed upright after that blow.

dang round 11 was crazy. This fight was so back and forth. round 15 ali lost. ali got more head contact, but frazier had the more impactful hits.

Gota luv Joe....No tricks just brings everything ....If you are going to beat Joe....It will take everything that a top 10 fighter has to offer....If you cant take Joes heart and handle his heat....all that will remain is a trip too the canvas...Joe remains my all time champion...They do not make masculine heavyweights like Joe anymore....A true gentlemen and fighter....

Joe fight in the same pattern: up and down head movement, throwing 1 or 2 punches, repeating Joe's punch angles are wide hooks, straight jabs, a duck, and back to repeating the coming forward up and down head movement.

Ali fights like this. Ali clinched a lot and bounced too much. He had hands down low often and used head movement, but not the way moderns used it, which was head blocking with hands. Also, Ali and Joe both fought in straight lines, along with missing multiple angles and timing. and these guys don't fight as smart

Tillis didn't get hit as easy as Ali did either since Tillis fought smarter and had real defense with his hands unlike alike where he just landed his headback

marvis also didn't fight as simple as dad and had more to his craft
