In this video, we explore the remarkable life of Tomiko Itooka , a Japanese supercentenarian born on May 23, 1908, who has recently become the world's oldest verified living person. At 116 years and 116 days, Tomiko has lived through some of the most significant events in modern history, and her story is one of resilience, longevity, and grace.

After the passing of Maria Branyas of Spain on August 19, 2024, Tomiko Itooka was officially recognized as the oldest person alive. She had already become Japan's oldest living person following the death of Fusa Tatsumi in December 2023. Despite her incredible age, Tomiko continues to display strength and independence. As recently as 116 years old, she could still move independently, although she now uses a wheelchair.

In this video, we take a closer look at her life: from her early days in Osaka, her marriage to Kenji Itooka in 1928, raising four children, and moving into a nursing home in Ashiya, Hyōgo, at the age of 110. We’ll also touch on the daily routines that have carried her through such an extraordinary life, including her love for Calpis, a drink she enjoys every morning.

Join us as we celebrate Tomiko Itooka's inspiring life and learn more about what it means to live through more than a century of history.
