Forming a neutron star is even cooler than forming a black hole

A supernova is a powerful and luminous explosion of a star. It has the plural form supernovae or supernovas, and is abbreviated SN or SNe. This transient astronomical event occurs during the last evolutionary stages of a massive star or when a white dwarf is triggered into runaway nuclear fusion.

It happened when T Rex walked the earth. Awesome.

Patrick W>gains of Utah just discovered his 5th supernova in the lenticular galaxy NGC 5631 in the constellation Ursa Major, over 80 mly distant
That's some seriously dedicated & impressive "star-gazing". Kudos, Patrick.

When I was in 8th grade, 300 8th graders or so from my middle school that had one specific science teacher all went on a three day trip to Catalina island, whites landing. That night a super nova exploded (meaning the light finally reached us) and we got to see it through a telescope. (Well my group did)

And 70 million years ago it’s just now getting to us

My neighbor owned a Super Nova back in 1979… 🚙

This means that the star exploded, formed a neutron star over 70 million years ago and we earthlings over looked the fireworks. Boy, are humans really late to the party.

It happened before the dinosaurs went extinct. That will give you some concept of how far away that was

I love that Hubble is dsicverying stuff still along JWST

That happened 70 million years ago. Mind blowing.

Happened millions of years ago. Let's not forget.

That's cool. All we have is mathematical representations and conjecture because the timescale of stars is so long. But when a critical event like this occurs, with a major boundary condition or change, it lets us apply new ideas and helps confirm the physics we were already thinking of.

I just love reading all these comments they're all so interesting.

A golf ball sized piece of Neutron star is estimated to weigh around 300 billion tonnes!

That’s amazing wouldn’t wanna be near that

So it happens like a million years ago?

Wow dinosaurs were doing their thing at the moment when billions of voices suddenly went silent, their solar system became no more...

Wish JWT could get more pics of the same explosion

If it was 70million light years away do that mean it could be considerably bigger? What if we don't see a black hole until it's too late
