Supernova in the Pinwheel Galaxy (M101) #shorts

A new Star Explosion called a supernova has been spotted in the Pinwheel galaxy.

I pointed my telescope at the galaxy and found it here.

If I compare it to the picture I captured of the galaxy 2 years ago, it's easy to see it stand out.

At 21 million light-years away, this is the closest supernova in a decade.

I captured this with my Celestron RASA (8-inch) telescope, ZWO ASI533MC color camera, and an Optolong L-Pro filter.

When you compare it to the normal pinwheel, it shows how crazy bright the supernova is! Great Job on capturing this Chuck!

The fact that it happened 21 million years Ago is Crazy.

It’s sobering to think that if there were any planets with life on them, within 50-100 light years of that supernova, they would have been completely wiped out 21 million years ago.

That's awesome.
It actually helped me realize how extremely large the supernova are.

Thanks Chuck. I am waiting for Betelgeuse to go SuperNova. I really hope we get to experience that. That would be so awesome.

Hey thanks Chuck, I didn’t even realize that had happened! Turned out I photographed it last week and only saw it in my own image after you just told me😀 Clear skies👍

If Betelgeuse goes off, that's only 724 light years away. It could happen any time.

Amazing! I still cannot grasp how we can see something that would take 21 million years, traveling at the speed of light to reach!!!

Crazy thing is you don't even see the star until after it goes supernova😮
